2014 European Curling Championships – Women's Tournament
The women's tournament of the 2014 European Curling Championships was held from November 22 to 29 at the Palladium de Champéry in Champéry, Switzerland. The winners of the Group C tournament in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands moved on to the Group B tournament. The top eight women's teams at the 2013 European Curling Championships will represent their respective nations at the 2015 World Women's Curling Championship in Sapporo, Japan. Champéry
Champéry (; frp, Champérié) is a municipality in the district of Monthey in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. History Champéry is first mentioned in 1286 as ''Champery'' The Hotel Dent-du-Midi opened in 1857. In 1969, Champéry became one of the founding villages of the Portes du Soleil ski area and resort. Geography Champéry has an area, , of . Of this area, 32.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 33.4% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 3.6% is settled (buildings or roads) and 30.3% is unproductive land. The municipality is located in the Monthey district, in the Val-d'Illiez, on the French border. It consists of the linear village of Champéry, which was part of the municipality of Val-d'Illiez until 1839 when it became independent. World Curling Federation
The World Curling Federation (WCF) is the world governing body for curling accreditation, with offices in Perth, Scotland. It was formed out of the International Curling Federation (ICF), when the push for Olympic Winter Sport status was made. The name was changed in 1990. The ICF was initially formed in 1966 as a committee of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in Perth after the success of the Scotch Cup series of world championships held between Canada and Scotland. At the outset, it comprised the associations of Scotland, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, and the United States. In the wake of its formation, it sanctioned the World Curling Championships. The WCF currently sanctions 15 international curling events (see below). Marie Turmann
Marie Kaldvee (born 23 January 1995 as Marie Turmann) is an Estonian curler from Järveküla, Estonia. She currently skips the Estonian women's curling team. Career Juniors Turmann played for the Estonian team at the 2012 Youth Winter Olympics, playing third on the team, which finished in last place. In the mixed doubles event, she was paired with Italy's Alessandro Zoppi. They would be eliminated after losing their only game. After playing in five European Junior Curling Challenges Turmann finally qualified for the World Junior Curling Championships in 2015. Turmann would skip the Estonian team there, with teammates Kerli Zirk, Kerli Laidsaulu and Johanna Ehatamm. The team finished the event with a 2–7 round robin record, missing the playoffs. Jeanne Ellegaard
Jeanne Ellegaard (born July 2, 1987) is a Danish curler. Career Ellegaard was a member of the Danish team that won a silver medal at the 2005 European Youth Olympic Festival. She played second for Madeleine Dupont. At the 2006 World Junior Curling Championships, Ellegaard was the alternate player for Nielsen's bronze medal-winning team. The following year, she won another bronze medal, this time throwing third rocks for Madeleine Dupont at the 2007 World Junior Curling Championships. Later that year, she won a bronze medal at the 2007 European Curling Championships as the alternate for the Nielsen team. Lene Nielsen
Lene Nielsen (born 31 August 1986 in Hvidovre) is a Danish curling, curler. She was the skip of the 2014 Danish Olympic Curling Team. Career Nielsen played in her first international events in 2004, as an alternate for the Madeleine Dupont rink. Even though she was an alternate, she played many games. At the 2004 World Junior Curling Championships, the team finished 6th and at the 2004 Ford World Women's Curling Championship they finished in 8th. They finished in 8th place at the 2004 European Curling Championships. Later that season, Nielsen was promoted to third on the team and they won a silver medal at the 2005 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival.
