2014 European Cup Winter Throwing
The 2014 European Cup Winter Throwing was held on 16 and 17 March at the Centro Nacional de Lançamentos (National Throws Centre) and Estádio Municipal in Leiria, Portugal. It was the fourteenth edition of the athletics competition for throwing events and was jointly organised by the European Athletic Association and the Federação Portuguesa de Atletismo. The competition featured men's and women's contests in shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and hammer throw. In addition to the senior competitions, there were also under-23 events for younger athletes. Two athletes defended their titles from 2013: Latvia's Zigismunds Sirmais retained the men's javelin in and Russia's Yevgeniya Kolodko topped the women's shot put with a mark of . The 2013 European Cup Winter Throwing was held on 16 and 17 March at the Pista de Atletismo Universitat Jaume I and Complejo Deportivo Gaetà Huguet in Castellón de la Plana, Castellón, Spain. It was the thirteenth edition of the athletics (sport), athletics competition in throwing events and was jointly organised by the European Athletic Association and the Real Federación Española de Atletismo. The competition featured men's and women's contests in shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and hammer throw. In addition to the senior competitions, there were also under-23 events for younger athletes. A total of 249 athletes from 38 nations entered the competition. It was the second time that Spain hosted the event, following on from the 2009 European Cup Winter Throwing, 2009 edition held in Tenerife. Erik Cadée
Erik Cadée (born 15 February 1984) is a Dutch discus thrower. Cadée was born in 's-Hertogenbosch. Among his first international appearances was a runner-up performance at the 2001 European Youth Olympic Festival. He competed in the qualifying rounds of the 2002 World Junior Championships in Athletics and improved the following year to claim the gold medal at the 2003 European Athletics Junior Championships. Cadée represented the Netherlands at the World Championships in Athletics in 2007 and 2009, but did not reach the final. He qualified for the final at the 2010 European Athletics Championships, but failed to record a legal throw in his three attempts. Marco Fortes (born 26 September 1982) is a male shot putter from Portugal. His personal best throw is 21.02 meters – Portuguese record – was achieved at the 2012 European Cup Winter Throwing in Bar, Montenegro, where he won the gold medal. Career Fortes was born in Portugal to Mozambican immigrants. At the age of 25, he was the first Portuguese shot putter to participate in the Olympics.
