2013–14 UMass Minutemen Basketball Team
The 2013–14 Massachusetts Minutemen basketball team represented the University of Massachusetts Amherst during the 2013–14 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Minutemen, led by sixth year head coach Derek Kellogg, played their home games at the William D. Mullins Memorial Center and were members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Early in the season UMass won the Charleston Classic tournament. Following this tournament victory and beginning the season 6–0, the Minutemen would be ranked #24 in the AP Poll. This marked the first time since 1998 that UMass would be ranked in the AP Top 25. They finished the regular season 23–7, 10–6 in A-10 play to finish in a tie for fifth place. The Minutemen were eliminated in the A-10 tournament quarterfinals. They earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, the school's first NCAA bid in 16 years. Derek Kellogg
Derek William Kellogg (born June 20, 1973) is an American college basketball coach who currently serves as an assistant coach for UMass. Kellogg previously served as head coach of the Minutemen, his alma mater, being named to the position on April 23, 2008, replacing Travis Ford, who left to take the head coaching job at Oklahoma State University. He was removed from the position on March 9, 2017. After being let go by the Minutemen, he was named head coach of the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, which represented the school's Brooklyn campus. He was named the first head coach of the current LIU team upon its formation in July 2019 when LIU merged the Brooklyn athletic program with that of its Post campus, creating a new program that now competes as the LIU Sharks, and served in that role until he was fired and replaced by Rod Strickland on June 30, 2022. Jabarie Hinds
Jabarie Wayne Hinds, Jr. (born March 11, 1993) is an American professional basketball player for Gezira of the Egyptian Basketball Super League. He played college basketball for West Virginia and the UMass. Early life and high school Hinds was born in The Bronx and grew up in Mount Vernon, New York and attended Mount Vernon High School. He was a standout basketball player for the Knights and was named Mr. Basketball for Westchester County in his junior year after averaging 18.5 points, 4.5 steals and 4.0 assists. As a senior, Hinds averaged 17.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.7 steals and was again named Mr. Basketball for Westchester County and also named co- Mr. Basketball for the state of New York and led the Knights to the New York Class AA state title, scoring 31 points in the championship game against Jamestown High School.
