2013–14 Montreal Canadiens Season
The 2013–14 Montreal Canadiens season was the 105th season of play for the franchise that was founded on December 4, 1909, and was their 97th season in the National Hockey League. The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning by sweeping them in the first round. They upset the top team in the NHL, the Boston Bruins, in a hard fought seven game series, before falling to the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Final in six games. The Eastern Conference (french: Conférence de l'Est) is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Western Conference. History Originally named the Prince of Wales Conference, it was created in 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. Peter Budaj ( ; born 18 September 1982) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey goaltender. He had previously played in the National Hockey League for the Colorado Avalanche, which drafted him, Montreal Canadiens, Los Angeles Kings, and Tampa Bay Lightning. Robert Mayer (born October 9, 1989) is a Czech-born Swiss professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently playing with Genève-Servette HC of the National League (NL). He first played professional with the Kloten Flyers of the NL before signing a three-year entry-level contract with the Montreal Canadiens in 2008. Playing career In his five seasons within the Canadiens organization, Mayer played primarily with American Hockey League affiliate the Hamilton Bulldogs. Zachary Fucale (born May 28, 1995) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender for the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract with the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). The 2013–14 Buffalo Sabres season was the 44th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on May 22, 1970.
