2013–14 Liga MX Season
The 2013–14 Liga MX season (known as the Liga BBVA Bancomer MX for sponsorship reasons) was the 67th professional top-flight football league season in Mexico. The season was split into two competitions: the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura; each of identical format and contested by the same eighteen teams. Clubs Eighteen teams competed in the season. Querétaro was relegated to the Ascenso MX after accumulating the lowest coefficient over the past three seasons. The 2012 Apertura Ascenso MX champion La Piedad would promote after defeating the Clausura 2013 winner Neza in a promotional play-off. But on May 28, 2013, Querétaro's ownership announced that it bought out Jaguares de Chiapas, relocated the team to Querétaro, dissolved the old Querétaro team and ensured that Querétaro would still have a team in the first division. The Liga MX, officially known as the Liga BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional football division in Mexico, holding 2 tournaments per year. The league is considered the strongest in North America, and among the strongest in all of the Americas. According to the International Federation of Football History & Statistics, the league currently ranks 20th worldwide and was ranked as the 10th strongest league in the first decade of the 21st century (2001–2010). Club Santos Laguna
Club Santos Laguna S.A. de C.V. (), commonly known as Santos Laguna or Santos, is a Mexican professional football club that competes in the Liga MX. It is located in northern Mexico and represents the urban area of La Comarca Lagunera, made up of the surrounding municipalities of Torreón, Gómez Palacio , Lerdo and Matamoros . Santos Laguna was founded in 1983 and reached Mexico's top division after buying the Ángeles de Puebla club. The club debuted in first division in the 1988–89 season. Club Deportivo Veracruz, commonly known as Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz, was a Mexican professional Association football, football club based in the city of Veracruz, Veracruz, Veracruz. Tuxtla Gutiérrez
Tuxtla Gutiérrez (, ) is the capital and the largest city of the Mexican southeastern state of Chiapas. It is the seat of the municipality of the same name, the most developed and populated in the state. Neza Fútbol Club, also known as ''Toros Neza'' is a Mexican football team based in the city of Nezahualcóyotl. They play in the Liga de Balompié Mexicano. The club returned for the Clausura 2011 Liga de Ascenso tournament, taking the place of Atlante UTN who had been purchased by Grupo Salinas . An earlier ''Toros Neza'' side played in the Mexican Primera División in the 1990s. 2012–13 Ascenso MX Season
The 2012–13 Ascenso MX season took place from 20 July 2012 to 11 May 2013 and was divided into two tournaments named Apertura 2012 and Clausura 2013. The Ascenso MX is the second-tier football league of Mexico. The Apertura 2012 winner La Piedad defeated the Clausura 2013 winner Neza in a promotional final and won the ascension to the 2013–14 Liga MX season. Changes from the previous season * León were promoted to Liga MX. * Tecos were relegated from Liga MX. * Titanes de Tulancingo, winners of Segunda División de México did not obtain a license to compete. The runners-up Tecamachalco also did not obtain a license. Since no teams were promoted from the Segunda, the total number of teams competing was reduced to fifteen. * U. de G. avoided relegation due to the disaffiliation to Indios.
