2013 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships
The 2013 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships took place from 8 to 10 March 2013 at the Főnix Hall in Debrecen, Hungary. They were the 38th World Short Track Speed Skating Championships and the first to be held in Hungary. Schedule The preliminary schedule of the event is the following: Results * First place is awarded 34 points, second is awarded 21 points, third is awarded 13 points, fourth is awarded 8 points, fifth is awarded 5 points, sixth is awarded 3 points, seventh is awarded 2 points, and eighth is awarded 1 point in each race, to determine to the overall world champion. Points are only awarded to the athletes that have taken part in the final of each race. The leader after the first 1000 m in the 3000 m super-final is awarded extra 5 points. Relays do not count for the overall classification. Főnix Hall
Főnix Arena (until 2021 Főnix Hall, ''Főnix Csarnok'') is a multi-purpose arena in Debrecen, Hungary. Főnix Aréna holds 8,500 people and opened in 2002. It hosted the 2002 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. The arena was named after the Phoenix, a mythical firebird which is the symbol of Debrecen. Főnix Aréna is the third largest arena in Hungary, and the largest outside Budapest. Background Főnix Hall is located in Debrecen, which is the second largest city of Hungary, in a pleasant environment: close to the Nagyerdő area, near Road 4, along the thoroughfare to Košice called Kassai út. Semen Elistratov
Semion Andreyevich Elistratov (russian: Семён Андреевич Елистратов; alternatively spelled Semen or Semyon, born 3 May 1990) is a Russian short track speed skater. He is the 2014 Olympic champion in the 5000 m relay and a double bronze medalist in the 1500 m at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics. Career Elistratov competed at the 2010 Winter Olympics for Russia. In the 500 metres and 1000 metres, he placed third in his round one heat, failing to advance, and in the 1500 metres, he placed fourth, also failing to advance. In all three events, he ended up 24th overall. As of 2013, Elistratov's best performance at the World Championships came in 2015, when he won a gold medal in 1500 m individual race. Li Jianrou
Li Jianrou (; ; born 15 August 1986 in Jilin City, Jilin Province) is a Chinese Short track Speed skater. She won a gold medal in the 500 m event of the 2014 Winter Olympics. She is the 2012 Overall World Champion. She represented China in the 2014 Winter Olympic's Ladies' 500 m event, 1000 m event and 1500 m event. She competed with China's women's relay team in the Ladies' 3000 m relay Finals and Semifinals. Career Li took up the sport at the age of 10 in her hometown, Jilin, China. Zhou Yang (speed Skater)
Zhou Yang (; ; born 9 June 1991) is a female Chinese short track speed skater. She won the gold medal in the 1500 m event at the 2010 Winter Olympics. She also won the Gold Medal in 1500m event at 2014 Sochi Olympics. Zhou added another gold medal on the Chinese 3000 m relay team. She set a new world and Olympic record in the 1,000 m semifinal. Marianne St-Gelais
Marianne St-Gelais (born February 17, 1990) is a Canadian former short track speed skater. She won two silver medals in the 500 m and 3,000 m relay at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, and a third silver in the 3,000 m relay at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Personal life St-Gelais, one of five siblings, began skating at the age of 10 when her neighbour encouraged her to join the local speed skating club. Elise Christie
Elise Christie (born 13 August 1990) is a British former short track speed skater. She was coached by Nicky Gooch and she specialised in the 1000m event. She is ten times a European gold medallist, including two overall European titles in 2015 and 2016. In the 2017 World Championships in Rotterdam she won world titles in the 1000m and 1500m events, as well as the overall gold, the first British woman and first European woman to do so. Jorien Ter Mors
Jorien ter Mors (; born 21 December 1989) is a retired Dutch speed skater on both short track and long track. She was the Olympic champion in the 1500 metres and team pursuit (long track) at the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 1000 metres at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Short track Ter Mors competed at the 2010 Winter Olympics for the Netherlands. She placed third in her round one race of the 500 metres and was disqualified in the opening round of the 1000 metres, failing to advance. Fan Kexin (; ; born 19 September 1993) is a Chinese short-track speed-skater. She has been on the Chinese national team since 2010. She won two silver medals in the 500 meters and 3000 meters relay at the 2010 ISU World Junior Championships. In 2011, she won her first gold medal at the World Championships on the 500 meters and another gold medal in the 3000 meters relay. She won a gold medal in the 3000 m relay event and a silver medal in the 500 m event in 2012. In the 2014 Winter Olympics, she had been regarded as the favorite in 500 meters before the game since she was 2nd on that distance in the 2013–2014 season while the strongest Chinese skater Wang Meng was injured and couldn't participate. Shim Suk-hee
Shim Suk-hee (Hangul: 심석희; ; born 30 January 1997) is a South Korean short track speed skater. She is a two-time Olympic Champion (2014, 2018) and a World Champion (2014). Park Seung-hi (; born 28 March 1992) is a former South Korean short track and long track speed skater. She is the 2010 Overall World Champion. She won two gold medals and three bronze medals at 2010 Winter Olympics and 2014 Winter Olympics. Her sister is Park Seung-ju, a long track speed skater, and her brother Park Se-yeong, a short track speed skater. She switched to long-track speed skating after the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Wang Meng (; born April 10, 1985 in Qitaihe, Heilongjiang) is a Chinese short track speed skater. She is a four-time Olympic Champion and 2008 and 2009 Overall World Champion. She is the most decorated Chinese Winter Olympic athlete ever with four Olympic gold medals, a silver and a bronze. Wang won gold in the 500 m event, silver in the 1000 m and bronze in the 1500 m event at the 2006 Winter Olympics.
