2013 Volvo World Match Play Championship
The 2013 Volvo World Match Play Championship was the 48th Volvo World Match Play Championship played. It was held 16–19 May, with the champion receiving €800,000. The format was 24 players split into eight pools of three, with the top two in each pool progressing to the knock-out stage. It was an official money event on the European Tour. Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland defeated Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, 2 & 1, in the final. Course Format The 24 players were split into eight pools of three, with the top two in each pool seeded by their Official World Golf Ranking and the remaining eight randomly assigned to a pool. Within each pool, every player played each other in a round-robin format over 18-hole matches. Points were awarded based upon win (2), tie (1) or loss (0). Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (born 13 October 1980) is a Spanish professional golfer. He has played on the European Tour, winning seven times, and on the PGA Tour. Early life Fernández-Castaño was born in Madrid. He started playing golf at the age of three and had a successful amateur career, winning the 2003 Spanish Amateur Open Championship and achieving the first place in the Spanish amateur ranking in the same year. Scott Jamieson (born 28 November 1983) is a Scottish professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. Amateur career Jamieson was born in Glasgow, Scotland. Stephen James Gallacher (born 1 November 1974) is a Scottish professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. Geoff Charles Ogilvy (born 11 June 1977) is an Australian professional golfer. He won the 2006 U.S. Open and has also won three World Golf Championships. Richard Sterne (born 27 August 1981) is a South African professional golfer who plays on both the European and Sunshine Tours. Life and career Sterne was born in Pretoria and attended St Alban's College for high school. Nicolas Colsaerts (born 14 November 1982) is a Belgian professional golfer currently playing on the European Tour and previously on the PGA Tour. Early life Colsaerts, also known as "The Belgian Bomber", was born in Schaerbeek, Belgium.
