2013 Skate Canada International
The 2013 Skate Canada International was the second event of six in the 2013–14 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, a senior-level international invitational competition series. It was held at the Harbour Station in Saint John, New Brunswick on October 24–27. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Skaters earned points toward qualifying for the 2013–14 Grand Prix Final. Eligibility Skaters who reached the age of 14 by July 1, 2013 were eligible to compete on the 2013 senior Grand Prix circuit. Entries The entries were as follows. Changes to initial lineup On September 26, 2013, it was reported that Yuna Kim withdrew because of a foot injury. Courtney Hicks was named to replace her. Kiira Korpi also withdrew and was replaced by Natalia Popova. Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov withdrew due to an injury to Smirnov. They were replaced by Haven Denney and Brandon Frazier. ISU Grand Prix Of Figure Skating
The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating (known as ISU Champions Series from 1995 to 1997) is a series of senior international figure skating competitions organized by the International Skating Union. The invitational series was inaugurated in 1995, incorporating several previously existing events. Medals are awarded in the disciplines of single skating, men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The junior-level equivalent is the ISU Junior Grand Prix. Single Skating
Single skating is a discipline of figure skating in which male and female skaters compete individually. Men's singles and women's singles are governed by the International Skating Union (ISU). Figure skating is the oldest winter sport contested at the Olympics, with men's and women's single skating appearing as two of the four figure skating events at the London Games in 1908. Single skaters are required to perform two segments in all international competitions, the short program and the free skating program. Nathan Chen from the United States holds both the highest single men's short program and free skating scores; Russian skater Kamila Valieva holds the both highest single women's short program and free skating scores. Margaret Purdy
Margaret Purdy (born January 18, 1995) is a Canadian former competitive pair skater. With Michael Marinaro, she is the 2013 World Junior silver medalist and 2010 Canadian national junior champion. Personal life Purdy attended the University of Western Ontario from September 2014 to 2018, studying social sciences. Career Purdy started skating at age four as a hockey player and switched to figure skating at age seven. In May 2007, Purdy teamed up with Michael Marinaro to train in pairs. In the 2009–10 season, they debuted on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series and won the Canadian junior title. The pair placed eighth in The Hague at their first World Junior Championships. Rudi Swiegers
Rudi Swiegers (born August 31, 1987) is a Canadian retired pair skater. With previous partner Paige Lawrence, he is the 2011 Four Continents bronze medalist and a four-time Canadian national bronze medalist (2011–14). He later competed with Hayleigh Bell. Personal life Swiegers was born in Cape Town, South Africa. His family moved to Canada for his mother, a physician, to work in Kipling, Saskatchewan. In 2009, he began studying part-time at Brandon University, focusing on psychology. Skating career Early years Swiegers began skating at age ten in Saskatchewan and began pairs at age fifteen. Paige Lawrence (born February 22, 1990) is a Canadian former competitive pair skater. With former partner Rudi Swiegers, she is the 2011 Four Continents bronze medallist and a four-time Canadian national bronze medallist (2011–14). Personal life Lawrence was born in Kipling, Saskatchewan. She is the third of five children born to Jim, a professional bull rider, and Leanne Lawrence. Her parents owned a rodeo production company. Kaetlyn Osmond
Kaetlyn Osmond (born December 5, 1995) is a retired competitive Canadian figure skater who competed in ladies' singles. A three-time Canadian national champion (2013, 2014, 2017), Osmond competed internationally at the senior level from 2012 to 2018, winning three Olympic medals (gold and silver in the team event, and individual bronze), two World Championship medals (gold and silver), and one Grand Prix Final medal (bronze). Andrei Rogozine (russian: Андрей Рогозин; born 29 January 1993) is a Canadian former competitive figure skater. He is the 2011 World Junior champion, 2010 JGP Final bronze medallist, and 2013 Canadian national bronze medallist. Personal life Andrei Rogozine was born January 29, 1993, in Moscow, Russia. His family moved to Canada when he was five. He attended Richmond Green Secondary School in Richmond Hill, Ontario. He moved to Newmarket, Ontario, in 2011 and now lives in Ottawa.
