All members were elected by first-past-the-post voting from single-member electoral divisions for a four-year term of office. The Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party held on to their overall majority, having held overall control of the council since 2005. All locally registered electors (British, Irish, Commonwealth and European Union citizens) who were aged 18 or over on Thursday 2 May 2013 were entitled to vote in the local elections. Northamptonshire (; abbreviated Northants.) is a county in the East Midlands of England. In 2015, it had a population of 723,000. The county is administered by two unitary authorities: North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire. It is known as "The Rose of the Shires".
