2013 National University Holiday Bowl
The 2013 Holiday Bowl was an American college football bowl game that was played on December 30, 2013, at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. The 36th edition of the Holiday Bowl, it featured the Texas Tech Red Raiders of the Big 12 Conference and the Arizona State Sun Devils of the Pac-12 Conference. It was one of the 2013–14 bowl games that concluded the 2013 FBS football season. The game started at 7:15 p.m. PST and was telecast on ESPN. It was sponsored by National University and was officially known as the National University Holiday Bowl. Texas Tech defeated Arizona State by a score of 37–23. This was only the second meeting of the teams. Although both the Red Raiders and Sun Devils were members of the Border Conference from 1932–1956, neither team faced the other until the 1999 season when both universities were members of their current athletic conferences. Qualcomm Stadium
San Diego Stadium was a multi-purpose stadium on the west coast of the United States, in San Diego, California. The stadium opened in 1967 as San Diego Stadium and was known as Jack Murphy Stadium from 1981 to 1997. From 1997 to 2017, the stadium's naming rights were owned by San Diego-based telecommunications equipment company Qualcomm, and the stadium was known as Qualcomm Stadium or simply The Q. The naming rights expired on June 14, 2017, and were purchased by San Diego County Credit Union, renaming the facility as SDCCU Stadium on September 19, 2017; those naming rights expired in December 2020. Demolition of San Diego Stadium began in December 2020 with the last freestanding section of the stadium's superstructure felled by March 22, 2021. 2013–14 NCAA Football Bowl Games
The 2013–14 NCAA football bowl games were a series of college football bowl games. They concluded the 2013 NCAA Division I FBS football season, and included 35 team-competitive games and three all-star games (down from four as the Texas vs the Nation game was cancelled for this season). The games began on Saturday December 21, 2013 and, aside from the all-star games, ended with the 2014 BCS National Championship at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena that was played on January 6, 2014. The total of 35 team-competitive bowls was unchanged from the previous year. While bowl games had been the purview of only the very best teams for nearly a century, this was the eighth consecutive year that teams with non-winning seasons participated in bowl games. 2013 Texas Longhorns Football Team
The 2013 Texas Longhorns football team (variously "Texas," "UT," the "Longhorns," or the "Horns") represented the University of Texas at Austin in the 2013 NCAA Division I FBS football season, as a member of the Big 12 Conference. The Longhorns were led by 16th-year head coach Mack Brown and played their home games at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium (DKR).
