2013 NASL Season
The 2013 North American Soccer League season was the 46th season of Division II soccer in the United States and the third season of the revived North American Soccer League. It was contested by eight teams including one from Canada. Expansion club New York Cosmos was added to the NASL during the season. A split season format was used for the first time. Puerto Rico Islanders, originally planned to take part in this season, as they did in first two editions, took the year off, due to planned restructuring. The defending Soccer Bowl champions were the Tampa Bay Rowdies, while the San Antonio Scorpions were the defending North American Supporters' Trophy winners. North American Soccer League (2011–2017)
The North American Soccer League (NASL) was a professional men's soccer league based in the United States. The league was named for, but had no connection to, the original North American Soccer League. The later NASL was founded in 2009, and began play in 2011 with eight teams. From 2013 through 2017, the NASL used a split-season schedule running from April to early November, with a four-week break in July. The spring and fall champions, along with the two teams with best combined spring/fall records met in a four-team single-elimination tournament known as ''The Championship''. The winner of the final claimed the Soccer Bowl trophy. While there was no promotion and relegation with other leagues, former commissioner Bill Peterson repeatedly stated that the league had an interest in introducing promotion and relegation to the pyramid. Beto Navarro
Alberto "Beto" Navarro (born March 25, 1989) is an American soccer player. He currently serves on the coaching staff for California United Strikers FC in the National Independent Soccer Association. Career In 2012, Navarro was a part of Cal FC's improbable U.S. Open Cup run that saw them defeat the USL's Wilmington Hammerheads and Major League Soccer's Portland Timbers before falling to Seattle Sounders FC in the fourth round. Navarro followed coach Eric Wynalda to Atlanta to join the NASL's Atlanta Silverbacks soon after. Navarro returned to his native California for the 2015 USL season, joining the Orange County Blues. On December 17, 2015, Navarro re-joined the NASL by signing a contract with Jacksonville Armada FC. Soccer Bowl 2013 was the North American Soccer League's postseason championship match of the 2013 season held to determine the NASL Champion. The event was contested in a one-game match between the Atlanta Silverbacks, winners of the Spring Championship, and the New York Cosmos, winners of the Fall Championship. The game was held on November 9, 2013 at Atlanta Silverbacks Park, in Atlanta, Georgia. It was televised at 7:30pm EDT on ESPN3 and ESPN Deportes. New York won the match by the score of 1–0.
