2013 Donegal Senior Football Championship
The 2013 Donegal Senior Football Championship was contested by senior Gaelic football clubs under the auspices of Donegal GAA. Brian McEniff managed Réalt na Mara in the competition, taking over from Joe Keeney after his resignation and filling the position in his 71st year. Format The old format, which involved a two-legged first round, was scrapped in favour of an opening round containing four groups of four teams played out as a league and one team relegated. Two of the four teams in each group advanced to the quarter-finals after each have played the others once. Teams finishing bottom of their group played two relegation semi-finals. The losing relegation semi-final teams met in the relegation final. The losing team was relegated to the Donegal Intermediate Football Championship to be replaced either by the Intermediate Championship winning team or the team finishing seventh in the All-County League Division Two. Donegal GAA
The Donegal County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Dhún na nGall) or Donegal GAA is one of 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Donegal. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Donegal county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball. The county football team was the third from the province of Ulster to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), following Cavan and Down. It last won the All-Ireland SFC in 2012 and the Ulster Senior Football Championship in 2019. St Michael's GAA (Donegal)
St Michael's (''CLG Naomh Mícheál'') is a GAA club based in Creeslough/Dunfanaghy in County Donegal. Located in the north of the county, the club is affected by rural issues such as low population and emigration; despite this they play at the top level in the Donegal Senior Football Championship and opened a new clubhouse in 2010. The club colours are red and white. The club plays at the Bridge in Dunfanaghy. The club has a rivalry with Cloich Cheann Fhaola. History The club does not have much of a history. Perhaps the most interesting fact about it is that 2014 European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley used to play for them. 2013 International Rules Series
The 2013 International Rules Series (officially the 2013 Irish Daily Mail International Rules Series) was the 17th International Rules Series contested between Gaelic footballers from Ireland and Australian footballers from Australia. Ireland entered the 2013 series as defending champions, whilst Australia were, for the first time in the series, represented by an exclusively Indigenous team, known as the Indigenous All-Stars. The series was played over two Test matches, with Ireland winning both Test matches to take the series 2–0 and achieve a record aggregate win of 173–72 points. The Gaelic Athletic Association announced the schedule for the series in February 2013, with Breffni Park in Cavan chosen for the first Test match and Croke Park in Dublin chosen to host the second Test match. CLG An Clochán Liath is a Gaelic football only GAA club based in An Clochán Liath, a Gaeltacht town in County Donegal, Ireland. The club fields both men's and ladies' teams at underage to Senior level. However, they currently play at intermediate level. The club were relegated to intermediate after 33 years in the 2020 Donegal Senior Football Championship. History An Clochán Liath have won the Donegal Senior Football Championship on seven occasions, the last coming in 1958. CLG na Cealla Beaga is a GAA club based in Killybegs, County Donegal, Ireland. They have won the Donegal Senior Football Championship on six occasions, most recently in 1996. They have an intense rivalry with Cill Chartha. History Founded in 1924, the club have had teams break up several times in their history. They play football only, though — in the past — played hurling too. CLG Ard an Rátha is a GAA club based in Ardara in County Donegal. The ''Ard an Rátha'' in the club's title is the place name in Irish, while ''CLG'' refers to "GAA". They are one of the strongholds of Gaelic football in Donegal. History The club was founded on 21 October 1921. Malin GAA is a Gaelic games club based in Malin in County Donegal, Ireland. It is the northernmost GAA club in Ireland. This tends to cause logistical struggles during the league as many of their rivals are a great distance away. One example of the distance travelled would be the 320-kilometre round trip required to play an away fixture to Naomh Columba. Four Masters is a GAA club located in the town of Donegal in County Donegal, Ireland. They are one of the strongholds of Gaelic football in Donegal. History Based in the parishes of Townawilly and Killymard, Donegal Town, Four Masters is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in Donegal having won 3 Donegal Senior Football Championships. The GAA club under Warwickshire County Board in Coventry, England, is named after the Four Masters club in Donegal. That club was unable to register as a Donegal Club but reserved the Four Masters name. Austin O'Kennedy, a top GAA doctor who oversaw all Donegal county teams for 22 years, has also been involved with Four Masters for even longer.
