2012–13 ProA
The 2012–13 ProA was the 6th season of the ProA, the second level of basketball in Germany. SC Rasta Vechta won the league and promoted to the Basketball Bundesliga by winning 2–0 in the Finals over Gloria Giants Düsseldorf. Science City Jena
Medipolis SC Jena is a basketball club based in Jena, Germany that plays in the ProA. Their home court is the Sparkassen Arena, which seats 3,000. Their current head coach is Dominik Reinboth. The team was known as Erdgas Baskets Jena through the 2006 season, then as POM Baskets Jena, then Science City Jena in 2007. In the 2015–16 season, they won their first ProA title and promoted to the Bundesliga. History Although never a big sport in the former East Germany, basketball was played in Jena since the 1960s. In 1994, a new basketball program was found in the "Turn- und Sportverein (TuS) Jena". Starting in the lower divisions the club gained promotion to the second division (2. Liga Süd) in 2001. Once established in professional sports the club started to become a basketball only organization with the founding of the Baskets Jena GmbH which now holds the license. Zamal Nixon (born January 7, 1989) is an American professional basketball player who last played for Science City Jena of the German ProA. After a successful four years at the University of Houston, Nixon entered the 2011 NBA draft but was not selected in the draft's two rounds. High school career Nixon played high school basketball at Boys & Girls High School, in Brooklyn, New York. College career Nixon played college basketball for the Houston Cougars from 2007 to 2011. During his senior year, Nixon went on to average 10.3 points, 4.7 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game. Professional career After going undrafted in the 2011 NBA draft, Nixon joined Hertener Loewen. Established in 1986, the club plays in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), the highest professional league in Germany. The club is a part of the multi-sports club TSV Crailsheim.
