Years Of The 21st Century In Paraguay
A year or annus is the orbital period of a planetary body, for example, the Earth, moving in its orbit around the Sun. Due to the Earth's axial tilt, the course of a year sees the passing of the seasons, marked by change in weather, the hours of daylight, and, consequently, vegetation and soil fertility. In temperate and subpolar regions around the planet, four seasons are generally recognized: spring, summer, autumn and winter. In tropical and subtropical regions, several geographical sectors do not present defined seasons; but in the seasonal tropics, the annual wet and dry seasons are recognized and tracked. A calendar year is an approximation of the number of days of the Earth's orbital period, as counted in a given calendar. The Gregorian calendar, or modern calendar, presents its calendar year to be either a common year of 365 days or a leap year of 366 days, as do the Julian calendars. For the Gregorian calendar, the average length of the calendar yea ...

2012 In South America
1 (one, unit, unity) is a number representing a single or the only entity. 1 is also a numerical digit and represents a single unit of counting or measurement. For example, a line segment of ''unit length'' is a line segment of length 1. In conventions of sign where zero is considered neither positive nor negative, 1 is the first and smallest positive integer. It is also sometimes considered the first of the infinite sequence of natural numbers, followed by  2, although by other definitions 1 is the second natural number, following  0. The fundamental mathematical property of 1 is to be a multiplicative identity, meaning that any number multiplied by 1 equals the same number. Most if not all properties of 1 can be deduced from this. In advanced mathematics, a multiplicative identity is often denoted 1, even if it is not a number. 1 is by convention not considered a prime number; this was not universally accepted until the mid-20th century. Additionally, 1 is the s ...

Hermann Guggiari
Hermann Guggiari (20 March 1924 – 1 January 2012) was a Paraguayan engineer and sculptor. Childhood and youth Guggiari was born in Asunción, Paraguay the son of Ana Brun and Pedro Bruno Guggiari, considered by many the most remarkable among the mayors of Asunción. He completed his elementary and high school education in the San Jose School of Asunción and his engineering studies in Buenos Aires where he also graduated as a sculptor at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes “ Ernesto de la Cárcova”, coming into contact with artists Libero Badii, Alicia Peñalba, Lucio Fontana and Curatella Manes and learning to value the avant-garde movements of the time. After the bloody civil war of 1947-1954 in Paraguay, Guggiari's liberal and democratic ideas gained him exile, cultural margination and imprisonment on several occasions, during the thirty-year dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner. The lack of an official national art fair in Paraguay led him to create the “B ...

Paraguay At The 2012 Summer Olympics
Paraguay competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's eleventh appearance at the Olympics, except the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow because of its partial support to the United States boycott. Comité Olímpico Paraguayo sent a total of 8 athletes, an equal share between men and women, to compete in 6 sports. Javelin thrower Leryn Franco, who competed at her third Olympics, was considered one of the most beautiful women in these Olympic Games, because of her professional career as a model and a beauty pageant contestant. Freestyle swimmer Benjamin Hockin, who played for Great Britain in Beijing, and embraced British roots to represent his mother's home land, became the nation's flag bearer at the opening ceremony. Paraguay, however, failed to win a single Olympic medal in London, since the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where the men's football team won the silver. Athletics Paraguayan athletes have so far achieved qual ...

History Of Paraguay
The history of Paraguay begins with the interaction between the early Spanish colonists and the indigenous people. The agricultural Guaraní lived in eastern Paraguay and neighboring countries and the nomadic Guaycuruan tribes lived in western Paraguay. The first Spanish explorers reached Paraguay in 1524. As Paraguay lacked mineral wealth and was isolated and land-locked, it was relatively unimportant to the Spanish. The small number of Spanish men resident in Paraguay intermarried with native women, resulting in a mestizo population. Most of the Guaraní (often called "Indians" or "Indios" in older documents) adopted the Roman Catholic religion of the Spaniards, but continued to speak the Guaraní language which along with Spanish is spoken by most people in Paraguay. In the 17th and 18th century the Jesuits established missions among the Guaraní which were called reductions. The Jesuits succeeded in spreading Christianity and giving the Guaraní some degree of protection ...

Impeachment Of Fernando Lugo
Fernando Lugo, elected President of Paraguay in 2008, was impeached and removed from office by the Congress of Paraguay in June 2012. On 21 June the Chamber of Deputies voted 76 to 1 to impeach Lugo, and the Senate removed him from office the following day, by 39 votes to 4, resulting in Vice President Federico Franco, who had broken with Lugo, becoming President. Lugo contends he was denied due process because he did not have enough time to prepare a defense. A number of Latin American governments declared the proceeding was effectively a ''coup d'état''. Lugo himself formally accepted the impeachment, but called it a "parliamentary coup". Background The election of Lugo to the presidency in 2008 broke a 61-year period in office for the Colorado Party (ANR-PC). Lugo was aided by the presence of Federico Franco of the traditional opposition Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA) on the ticket as its vice presidential candidate. Lugo's electoral coalition, the Patriotic Allian ...
