2012 ITU World Triathlon Series
The 2012 ITU World Triathlon Series was a series of eight World Championship Triathlon events that led up to a Grand Final held in Auckland, New Zealand in October 2012. The Series was organised under the auspices of the world governing body of triathlon, the International Triathlon Union (ITU). The World Triathlon Series (WTS) visited Sydney, San Diego, Madrid, Kitzbühel, Hamburg, London, Stockholm, and Auckland. The series took place during the 2012 Summer Olympic year with many countries using the results of some series races to determine which athletes would qualify to represent their nation in triathlon at the 2012 Summer Olympics. The series included two sprint distance races and six Olympic distance races. The series stop in Stockholm also served as the location for the 2012 ITU Team Triathlon World Championships. ITU World Triathlon Series
The World Triathlon Championship Series is World Triathlon's annual series of triathlon events used to crown an annual world champion since 2008. There are multiple rounds of competitions culminating in a Grand Final race. Athletes compete head-to-head for points in these races that will determine the overall World Triathlon champion. The elite championship races are held, with one exception, over two distances, the standard or 'Olympic' distance (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run) and the sprint distance (750 m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run). The ITU (the former name of World Triathlon) world champion between 1989 and 2008 had been decided in a single annual championship race. Since 2018 a mixed relay series has been run in tandem, where national teams compete in mixed team relays for prize money and Olympic qualifying points. Kate McIlroy
Kate McIlroy (born 26 August 1981) is a New Zealand cyclist, triathlete and former runner. She won the World Mountain Running title in 2005 and was later named New Zealand Sportswoman of the Year at the Halberg Awards. She is the national women's record holder for the 3000 metre steeplechase with a time of 9:32.54 set in Heusden, Belgium during 2006. McIlroy converted to track in a bid to compete at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but sustained a leg injury and was unable recover in time. She started competing in triathlons at the end of 2008. Emma Moffatt
Emma Moffatt (born 7 September 1984) is a retired Australian professional triathlete. She won a bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and won the gold at the ITU Triathlon World Championships in 2009 and in 2010. She was born in Moree, New South Wales, and was raised in the northern New South Wales town of Woolgoolga. From a young age, she participated in such sports as cross country, athletics, and surf lifesaving. In her early teens, Emma began successfully participating in triathlon. Each of her three siblings and parents also competed in triathlon, while her elder sister Nicole was a champion Ironwoman in surf lifesaving. Andrea Hansen (née Hewitt, born 4 April 1982) is a New Zealand triathlete who placed third at the 2009 ITU Triathlon World Championships and competed at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Summer Olympics. Biography Hewitt was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 1982. Vincent Luis
Vincent Luis (born 27 June 1989 in Vesoul, France) is a French professional triathlon, triathlete. Besides his many World_Triathlon_Series, WTS wins and participations to the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2016 Summer Olympics, he won the ITU World Triathlon Series, ITU World Championship in 2019 and 2020, and the Mixed Relay Team World Championship with the French national team in 2015, 2018 and 2019. He won the Junior World Championship and Junior European Championship in 2008, as well as multiple French national titles over the years. Luis also competes in Super League Triathlon. Francisco Javier Gómez Noya
Francisco Javier Gómez Noya (born 25 March 1983) is a Spanish triathlete. He is the winner of five ITU Triathlon World Championships, he holds three ITU Triathlon World Cup titles, and won the Silver medal for Spain at the 2012 Summer Olympics in men's triathlon. He has also won world titles for Ironman 70.3 and XTERRA Triathlon. Born to Spanish immigrants (both from Galicia) in Basel, Switzerland, he returned to Spain and now lives in Pontevedra, Galicia. Alistair Edward Brownlee MBE (born 23 April 1988) is a British triathlete. He is the only athlete to hold two Olympic titles in the triathlon event, winning gold medals in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games. Richard Murray (born 4 January 1989, in Cape Town) is a Dutch/South African triathlete. Murray won the Junior ITU Duathlon World Championships in 2007 and 2008, entered the adult Tri in 2009, and was the Under-23 African champion in both triathlon and duathlon in 2010, and was the elite African triathlon champion in 2011 and 2012.
