2012 Honda Indy 200 At Mid-Ohio
The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio was the twelfth round of the 2012 IndyCar Series season. It took place on Sunday, August 5, 2012. The race was contested over 85 laps at the permanent road course at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, United States. The race was won by New Zealand racer Scott Dixon racing for Chip Ganassi Racing. Dixon finished 3.4 seconds ahead of Australian driver Will Power driving for Team Penske with Frenchman Simon Pagenaud finishing third for Schmidt Hamilton Motorsports. It was Dixon's second win for the year and Pagenaud's third top three finish for the year. More significant, Power's second place compared to the results for Ryan Hunter-Reay and Power's teammate Hélio Castroneves, put Power back into the lead of the championship. Honda 200
The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio is an IndyCar Series race held at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Professional open wheel races at the facility date back to 1970. The U.S. Formula 5000 series ran from 1970 to 1976, and the revived Can-Am series ran from 1977 to 1980. The CART series debuted at the track in 1980, and continued to race there from 1983 to 2003. In 2007, American open wheel racing returned to the venue, when the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series held an event. The race used to be part of a doubleheader with the American Le Mans Series, however in ALMS chose not to return to the track during its final year, 2013. The history of open-wheel races has a unique footnote. The race has been won consecutively on seven occasions, including four times in a row from 1991 to 1997. Josef Nicolai Newgarden (born December 22, 1990) is an American race car driver who competes in the IndyCar Series full-time for Team Penske. He is the 2017 and 2019 IndyCar Series Champion and 2011 Indy Lights champion. Career Karting Newgarden's first race vehicle was a motorized scooter purchased at a skate shop in Hendersonville, Tennessee. In 2001, Newgarden competed in events across the country. After a year of this, his father purchased a kart. When he was 13, he and his family ventured outside of Tennessee to find a competitive kart racing environment. Graham Robert Rahal (born January 4, 1989) is an American race car driver and small business owner. He currently participates in the IndyCar Series with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, a team partially owned by his father Bobby Rahal, the winner of the 1986 Indianapolis 500.
