2012 FIA GT1 Zolder Round
The 2012 FIA GT1 Zolder round is an auto racing event held at the Circuit Zolder, Heusden-Zolder, Belgium on 20–22 April 2012, and is the second round of the 2012 FIA GT1 World Championship season. It is the second time the FIA GT1 World Championship has visited Zolder, with defending race winners Markus Winkelhock and Marc Basseng returning for 2012 with All-Inkl.com Münnich Motorsport. The event is supported by the FIA GT3 European Championship, the 2012 Supercar Challenge, and the Belgian Historic Cup. Qualifying Qualifying result For qualifying, Driver 1 participates in the first and third sessions while Driver 2 participates in only the second session. Zolder
The Circuit Zolder, also known as Circuit Terlamen, is an undulating motorsport race track in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium. History Built in 1963, Zolder hosted the Formula One Belgian Grand Prix on 10 separate occasions in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as the 1980 Belgian motorcycle Grand Prix. F1 moved to Zolder in 1973 and with the exception of a race at Nivelles-Baulers in 1974, Zolder was the location of the Belgian Grand Prix until 1982. That year, Canadian driver Gilles Villeneuve was killed during qualifying at the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix. Villeneuve's Ferrari 126C2 collided at speed with the March 821 of Jochen Mass. The Ferrari was torn up in the accident and when rolling, Villeneuve was thrown from the car. After Villeneuve's death, the Belgian Grand Prix was held at Spa-Francorchamps in 1983, before returning to Zolder one final time in 1984. Michael Bartels
Michael Bartels (born 8 March 1968) is a German professional racing driver. He is a multiple FIA GT champion and former Grand Prix driver who attempted to qualify for four races in with Lotus. Career Bartels was the 1985 German karting champion and the 1986 German Formula Ford 1600 champion. He competed in the German Formula Three Championship in 1988 and 1989, before stepping up to International Formula 3000 in 1990. Bartels filled in at Lotus for Johnny Herbert, who had commitments in Japanese Formula 3000, at four Grands Prix during the Formula One season, but failed to qualify at all four races.
