2012 Brisbane City Council Election
Elections to Brisbane City Council were held on Saturday, 28 April 2012 to elect a councillor to each of the local government area's 26 wards and the direct election of the Lord Mayor of Brisbane. The election resulted in a landslide re-election of the Liberal National Party (previously represented in Queensland as the Liberal Party), increasing their representation by two wards. The incumbent Lord Mayor, Graham Quirk, was elected to his first full-term with a substantial 68.3% of the two-party-preferred vote. Results Mayoral election Campbell Newman was elected Lord Mayor of Brisbane in 2008 as the Liberal Party candidate. In 2011 he resigned as Lord Mayor to be the Liberal National Party's candidate for Premier of Queensland. Brisbane City Council (BCC) is the democratic executive local government authority for the City of Brisbane, the capital city of the state of Queensland, Australia. The largest City Council in Australia by population and area, BCC's jurisdiction includes 26 wards and 27 elected councillors covering 1338km2. BCC is overseen by the Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Adrian Schrinner, and the Council of Brisbane (all councillors of the City of Brisbane) and the Civic Cabinet (Councillors that chair one of eight standing committees within BCC). The Australian Labor Party (Queensland Branch), commonly known as Queensland Labor or as just Labor inside Queensland, is the state branch of the Australian Labor Party in the state of Queensland. It has functioned in the state since the 1880s. History Trade unionists in Queensland had begun attempting to secure parliamentary representation as early as the mid-1880s. Andrew Wines
Andrew Wines (born 3 December 1984) is a Councillor for the Brisbane City Council representing the Enoggera Ward and is Chair of the Infrastructure Committee. He was elected to Brisbane City Council in 2008 and has been returned three subsequent times. Wines was previously Chair of Council for 2019-2021 and served in a range of deputy and whips roles between 2008 and 2019. Biography Wines was born in Camden NSW to a mother and father who were in active army service (both serving 20 years). Ryan Murphy is Councillor for Chandler Ward, in Brisbane City Council. Adrian Schrinner
Adrian Schrinner is the incumbent Lord Mayor of Brisbane. He was sworn in on 8 April 2019 after outgoing Lord Mayor Graham Quirk announced his resignation, Schrinner was endorsed by the LNP Party Room on 31 March 2019 as Quirk's successor. He has represented the ward of Chandler for the Liberal National Party of Queensland since September 2005.
