2012 ACC Championship Game
The 2012 ACC Championship Game was the eighth football championship game for the Atlantic Coast Conference. It featured the winners of the ACCs two divisions, the Atlantic Division's Florida State Seminoles and the Coastal Division's Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. With three teams tied for the first place in the Coastal Division, only Georgia Tech was eligible for the Championship Game. Miami self-imposed a postseason ban in a bid to lessen possible NCAA sanctions (see 2011 University of Miami athletics scandal). North Carolina was serving a one-year bowl ban handed down by the NCAA as part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill football scandal. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is a collegiate athletic conference located in the eastern United States. 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Football Season
The 2012 ACC football season is an NCAA football season that will be played from September 1, 2012, to January 1, 2013. The Atlantic Coast Conference consists of 12 members in two divisions. The Atlantic division consists of Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Maryland, North Carolina State and Wake Forest. The Coastal division consists of Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Virginia, and Virginia Tech. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill football scandal is an incident in which the football program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was investigated and punished for multiple violations of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules and regulations, including academic fraud and improper benefits to student-athletes from sports agents. The NCAA investigation found that a tutor had completed coursework for several football players, among other improper services. The 2012 Florida State Seminoles football team, variously Florida State or FSU, represented Florida State University in the sport of American football during the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The ACC Championship Game is an annual American college football game held in early December by the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) each year to determine its football champion. From its inception in 2005 to 2022, the game pit the champion of the Coastal Division against the champion of the Atlantic Division in a game that follows the conclusion of the regular season. The current champions are the Clemson Tigers of the Atlantic Division.
