2011 Ypres Rally
The 2011 GEKO Ypres Rally, was the fifth round of the 2011 Intercontinental Rally Challenge and fourth round of the 2011 European Rally Championship. The event was held between 23–25 June 2011, and was based in the town of Ypres in Belgium. Introduction The rally was held over two days with a total of covered in eighteen asphalt special stages. Friday had six stages with Saturday having a total of twelve stages. In addition to IRC frontrunners Bryan Bouffier, Jan Kopecký and Thierry Neuville, other entries in S2000 cars included Freddy Loix (Škoda Fabia S2000), Abarth driver Luca Rossetti and factory Proton pair, Giandomenico Basso and Per-Gunnar Andersson. Kopecký failed to start the event however, after a crash in shakedown that caused an injury to his co-driver, Petr Starý. 2011 Intercontinental Rally Challenge Season
The 2011 Intercontinental Rally Challenge was the sixth season of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. The season consisted of twelve rounds and started on 19 January with the Monte Carlo Rally. The season ended on 5 November, at the Cyprus Rally. The series introduced a new points system for the 2011 season, applying the FIA points system – 25–18–15–12–10–8–6–4–2–1 – which had been introduced to other championships within the last twelve months. Within the new system, the final two events in Scotland and Cyprus offered more points via a scoring coefficient. Scotland offered crews points on a 1.5 coefficient, meaning that the winner earned 37.5 points, second place 27 points, third place 22.5 points and so on. In Cyprus, double points were offered, meaning the winner received 50 points, second place 36, third place 30 and so forth. Intercontinental Rally Challenge
The Intercontinental Rally Challenge was an FIA-sanctioned rallying series organised by SRW Events and Eurosport Events, and aimed to "give new opportunities to young or amateur rally drivers competing in recognised regional and international rallies, while offering organisers an innovative TV format concept, created by Eurosport." The series focused on Group N and Group A spec cars up to 2000 cc, including Super 2000, R4, R2 and R3. The series began in 2006 under the name ''International Rally Challenge'', adopting the name, ''Intercontinental Rally Challenge'' in 2007. Toni Gardemeister (born 31 March 1975) is a Finnish professional rally driver in the World Rally Championship. After previously competing for SEAT's, Mitsubishi's, Škoda's and Ford's factory teams, as well as for privateer teams, he joined the Suzuki World Rally Team for the 2008 season. Martin Järveoja (; born 18 August 1987) is an Estonian rally co-driver. He is currently teamed with Ott Tänak and is competing for Hyundai in the World Rally Championship. Guy Wilks (born 22 January 1981) is a British rally driver. Wilks started rallying at the age of 19, but currently drives for JRM in the FIA World Rallycross Championship. In 2011 Wilks drove for Peugeot UK in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. In 2012 he did not compete.
