2011 World Masters (darts)
The 2011 Winmau World Masters was a major televised tournament on the BDO/ WDF calendar for 2011. It took place from 1–4 September in the Hull Arena, which hosted the event for the first time, taking over from the nearby Hull City Hall. Defending men's champion Martin Adams lost in the semi-finals to Scott Waites, who went on to win his first World Masters title beating Dean Winstanley by 7 sets to 2 in the final. Defending women's Master Julie Gore lost in the semi-finals to Trina Gulliver. Seeds Men These were finalised on completion of the 2011 Swedish Open on 19–21 August. Hull Arena
Hull Arena (originally Humberside Ice Arena and known locally as the Hull Ice Arena) is an ice rink, in the city of Kingston upon Hull, England. It has a capacity of 3,750 people. The Hull Arena is also a concert venue, playing host to numerous acts since its inception in 1987. It has an Olympic sized rink of . Events The Hull Arena was the home of all ice hockey teams within the city including the Elite League club Hull Stingrays who played games most weeks at the Hull Arena with most games being held on a Sunday Night. The current tenants are Hull Pirates and their affiliates Hull Jets. The Arena hosts boxing events for the Matchroom Boxing promotions stable with Hull boxers Luke Campbell and Tommy Coyle amongst those to compete. Ross Montgomery (born 16 October 1962), nicknamed The Boss, is a Scottish professional darts player who played in World Darts Federation (WDF) tournaments and as of January 14th 2022 now plays on the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Craig Baxter (16 February 1929 – 7 February 2008) was an American diplomat, academic, and historian of South Asian history. He was the founder of the American Institute of Bangladesh Studies. Early life Baxter was born on 16 February 1929 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and raised in Union, New Jersey, and Cleveland, Ohio. Baxter graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1951 with a B.S. in Economics. He served in the United States Army for two years and then did his master's in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania in 1954. He studied Hindi and Urdu languages at the Foreign Service Institute. He was appointed as political officer at the United States Embassy in Delhi. He then did his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania, completed in 1967, on the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, a right-wing Hindu nationalist party in India and the precursor of the present-day Bharatiya Janata Party, which was later published as a book in 1969. Glen Durrant
Glen Durrant (born 24 November 1970), nicknamed "Duzza", is an English former professional darts player who played in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He previously won the BDO World Darts Championship three times consecutively from 2017 to 2019. He is also a one-time World Trophy, two-time World Masters and three-time Finder Darts Masters champion. After switching to the PDC in 2019, Durrant secured his maiden PDC major title by winning the 2020 Premier League. BDO Early career Although he began playing in 1985, Durrant's first major appearance was in the 2004 Winmau World Masters, where he lost out in the early stages to Dietmar Burger. Steve Douglas (darts Player)
Stephen "Steve" Douglas (born 17 November 1977 from Bromley, London) is a former English professional darts player. His nickname was The Game. Career Douglas won the 1995 WDF Europe Youth Cup, and made his BDO World Darts Championship debut in 2000. He defeated Gary Spedding in the first round before losing to eventual champion Ted Hankey in the second round. Douglas returned to the BDO World Championship stage in 2011, losing 0-3 in the first round to Gary Robson. He has also appeared in the Last 16 of the World Masters in 2009 and again in 2011. Douglas qualified for the World Championship again in 2012, and again was drawn against Robson in the first round. On this occasion, Douglas defeated Robson 3-0. Kevin Thomas (darts Player)
Kevin Thomas (born 8 May 1980, in Swansea) is a professional Welsh darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation events. He uses the nickname The Undertaker for his matches due to him being of fan of WWE's Undertaker. BDO career Kevin Thomas has been playing darts from the early age of 6, but started out properly as a 15 year old Glamorgan Youth Player in 1995. He got picked for The Wales Youth Team in 1995,1996 and 1997 and throughout his Youth years, he was a dominant force in Youth darts winning the Southern Inter Counties Under 18 Youth Averages 2 times and the Under 21 Averages 2 times. In 1999, Thomas reached the final of the British Teenage Open where he lost 3–1 against Matt Chapman. Karin Krappen
Karin Krappen (born 10 December 1973) is a former Dutch darts player. She is a former winner of the Women's World Darts Trophy and the Women's World Masters. She was nicknamed Dolphin. Career Krappen made her World Championship debut in 2003, losing in the quarter finals to Francis Hoenselaar. She went one step further in 2004, beating Anne Kirk in the quarter finals but lost in the semis to Trina Gulliver. She then suffered quarter final exits the next three years, losing in 2005 again to Hoenselaar, 2006 to Jan Robbins and 2007 to Apylee Jones. She reached the semi finals in 2008, defeating Rilana Erades in the quarter finals but lost to Gulliver once more. Lorraine Winstanley ( née Farlam, born 28 October 1975) is an English darts player who plays in both World Darts Federation (WDF) and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Career Winstanley won the 2011 Romanian International Darts Open beating Jane Shearing 5–1 in the final. She qualified for the 2011 BDO World Darts Championship, where she lost 0–2 to Irina Armstrong in the quarter-finals. The following year, she went one step further by making it through to the semi-finals, where she was narrowly defeated by Deta Hedman in a last leg decider. Winstanley qualified again for the World Championships in 2013, and made it as far as the quarter-finals, where she was beaten 0–2 by Anastasia Dobromyslova. Anastasia Petrovna Dobromyslova-Martin (russian: Анастаси́я Петро́вна Добромы́слова; born 26 September 1984) is a professional darts player. She is a three-time Women's World Professional Darts Champion of the British Darts Organisation (BDO). After winning her first title in 2008, Dobromyslova decided to join the rival male-dominated Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) to play in their World Championship in 2009. After rejoining the BDO in 2011, she won her second World Championship in 2012 and a third in 2013. Dobromyslova uses the song "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence. Irina Armstrong (russian: Ирина Армстронг) née Loginova (born 6 December 1970) is a Russian-born German female professional darts player who currently plays in the World Darts Federation (WDF) events. Her biggest achievement to date was advanced to semi-finals in the 2011 BDO World Darts Championship. She is a gold medalist in pairs competitions during the WDF World Cup and WDF Europe Cup. Deta Hedman
Deta Hedman (born 14 November 1959) is an English darts player who plays in World Darts Federation (WDF) events. Biography Hedman was born in Jamaica in 1959. Her parents emigrated to the United Kingdom in the early 1960s, leaving Hedman and her siblings in the care of relatives in Jamaica. She spent her childhood with her aunt in Castleton in a shack without running water or electricity, going to school from Monday to Thursday and working on the farm on Fridays. Her parents eventually settled in Witham, Essex and over time, brought their children to the UK, with Hedman joining them in January 1973. She started playing darts with her older brother after babysitting for him and then at the local pub in Witham and further afield in Essex. When she was 25, she joined a super league.
