2011 South Carolina Gamecocks Baseball Team
The 2011 South Carolina Gamecocks baseball team represented the University of South Carolina in the 2011 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Gamecocks played their home games in Carolina Stadium. The team was coached by Ray Tanner, who was in his fifteenth season at Carolina. The Gamecocks won the 2011 College World Series to become the sixth school in the history of the College World Series to win consecutive national titles (1949-1950 Texas Longhorns; 1970-1974 Southern California Trojans; 1987-1988 Stanford Cardinal; 1996-1997 LSU Tigers; & the 2006-2007 Oregon State Beavers). During their postseason run, the Gamecocks also became the first team to go 10-0 through the postseason. Ray Tanner
Donald Ray Tanner Jr. (born March 25, 1958) is an American college athletics administrator and former baseball coach who is the athletic director at the University of South Carolina, a position he took on July 13, 2012, after 16 seasons as head coach of the university's baseball program. His record at South Carolina was 738-316 (.700). He led USC to three consecutive College World Series appearances in 2002, 2003, and 2004; three consecutive College World Series Finals appearances in 2010, 2011, and 2012; two College World Series Championships in 2010 and 2011; and coached the USA Baseball National Team during the 2003 summer. On April 11, 2010, Tanner recorded the 1,000th win of his career with a 2–0 victory over Vanderbilt, becoming the 44th Division I coach to reach the milestone. Evan Marzilli
Evan Daniel Marzilli (born March 13, 1991) is an American former professional baseball center fielder. He was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 8th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft. Amateur career Marzilli attended Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, Rhode Island, graduating in 2009. He enrolled at the University of South Carolina to play college baseball for the South Carolina Gamecocks. In 2011, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Professional career Arizona Diamondbacks The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Marzilli in the eighth round of the 2012 MLB draft. Georgia Bulldogs Baseball
The Georgia Bulldogs baseball team represents the University of Georgia in NCAA Division I college baseball. Along with most other Georgia athletic teams, the baseball team participates in the Eastern division of the Southeastern Conference. Georgia won the College World Series in 1990. Wofford Terriers
Wofford College sponsors 18 sports for men's and women's programs, competing as the Terriers. The Terriers compete in the Southern Conference, and have been a part of the league since the 1997–98 academic year. Wofford and the other SoCon members play football in the Football Championship Subdivision. Prior to the 1995–96 year, the Terriers played in Division II in all sports, and until the 1988–89 period, Wofford's athletic teams were members of the NAIA. The football team plays in Gibbs Stadium. Doug Kingsmore Stadium (known prior to 2003 officially as Beautiful Tiger Field) is a baseball park in the southeastern United States, located in Clemson, South Carolina. It is primarily used for National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA and is the home field of the Clemson Tigers baseball, Clemson Tigers of the List of NCAA Division I baseball programs, Division I Atlantic Coast Conference. Fluor Field At The West End
Fluor Field at the West End is a 6,700-seat baseball-only stadium in Greenville, South Carolina, that opened on April 6, 2006. Designed by architectural firm DLR Group, it was built as a new home of the Greenville Drive baseball team, the High-A East affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Features Fluor Field nearly replicates the dimensions of Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox. The ballpark has its own "Green Monster" replica, a 30-foot high wall in left field as opposed to the 37-foot one found at Fenway, and contains a manual scoreboard. Every other dimension is to the same specifications as Fenway Park, including "Pesky’s Pole" in right field. Other than the tribute to Fenway, Fluor Field also pays tribute to the Greenville area as the ballpark's nostalgic look utilizes reclaimed bricks from local mills. Clemson Tigers Baseball
The Clemson Tigers baseball team represents Clemson University in NCAA Division I college baseball. The team participates in the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Tigers are currently coached by head coach Erik Bakich and play their home games in Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The program has reached the NCAA Tournament in all but one season dating back to 1987. Furman Paladins
The Furman Paladins are the varsity athletic teams representing Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, in intercollegiate athletics. Furman competes in NCAA Division I athletics and is one of the smallest NCAA Division I schools in the nation. The university sponsors sixteen teams including football, women's lacrosse, men and women's basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, softball, track and field, and volleyball; and recently discontinued baseball and men's lacrosse. The Southern Illinois Salukis baseball team represents Southern Illinois University in NCAA Division I college baseball. They are part of the Missouri Valley Conference. The Santa Clara Broncos are athletic teams that represent Santa Clara University. The school colors are red and white. The nicknames for teams is The Broncos and the student fans are referred to as the "Ruff Riders".
