2011 Hulu Langat Landslide
The 2011 Hulu Langat landslide was a landslide attributed to heavy rain that occurred on the afternoon of 21 May 2011, at Kampung Gahal in the district of Hulu Langat at Selangor, Malaysia. The landslide struck an orphanage nearby, killing 16 people, including 13 children. Background The Hidayah Madrasah Al-Taqwa orphanage was located at Semungkis River Road at Kampung Gahal, part of FELCRA Semungkis. The region, a hilly rural area, is vulnerable to landslides. The landslide occurred at 2:20 pm local time and had only affected the orphanage building. Hulu Langat District is a district located in the southeastern corner of Selangor, between Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan. It is bordered by the state of Pahang to the east and north, Gombak district to the north-west, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Petaling district to the west, Sepang district to the south-west, and state of Negeri Sembilan to the south. Highland Towers Collapse
The Highland Towers collapse occurred on 11 December 1993 in Taman Hillview, Ulu Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. Tower Block 1 collapsed from a major landslide caused by heavy rains that burst diversion pipes. The Highland Towers consisted of three 12-storey buildings or "blocks". The collapse of Block 1 resulted in 48 deaths. Residents of the other two blocks and neighbouring establishments were evacuated due to safety concerns. The Highland Towers complex was built in phases between 1974 and 1982. It was constructed at the western base of a steeply sloped hill, terraced extensively in the early 1980s. Block 1 was the southernmost building, Block 2 was built north-northwest of Block 1, and Block 3 was built west of Block 2. 2022 Batang Kali Landslide
A landslide occurred in the early hours of 16 December 2022 near the Malaysian town of Batang Kali, Selangor, displacing of soil and burying campsites at an organic farm. The accident trapped 92 people under the collapsed slope; most were campers from the farm. 31 people were killed and 61 were rescued, with 8 people requiring hospitalisation. The disaster led to a suspension of all outdoor recreational activities in Batang Kali, and the temporary closing of all picnic and camping spots throughout Selangor. The 2008 Bukit Antarabangsa landslide was a landslide that occurred on the early morning of 6 December 2008, at the town of Bukit Antarabangsa of Selangor, Malaysia. 4 people were killed while 15 others were injured from the incident. 14 houses were destroyed during the process. The landslide was colloquially referred with the Highland Towers collapse of 1993, due to its close proximity and similar circumstances. Background Bukit Antarabangsa is a hillside township located at Ampang, Selangor. The township was known for housing numerous affluent celebrities and aristocrats of Malaysia. Prior to the 2008 landslide, the area was already known for being landslide-prone.
