2011 FINA Women's Water Polo World League
The 2011 FINA Women's Water Polo World League was the eighth edition of the event, organised by the world's governing body in aquatics, the FINA. After playing in groups within the same continent, eight teams qualify to play in a final tournament, called the Super Final in Tianjin, China from June 14 to June 19, 2011. FINA Water Polo World League
The FINA Water Polo World League was an international water polo league organized by FINA, which plays annually, typically from winter through to June. League play featured continental tournaments for men and women, from which the top teams emerged to play in the championship tournament (the "Super Final") where the league champion team is crowned. Men's league play began in 2002, to capitalize on increased worldwide popularity of water polo created by the 2000 Olympic Games, especially in Europe, North America and Australia. The women’s league was added in 2004, based on growing interest in women's play. In October 2022, FINA announced that the tournament would be replaced with the FINA Water Polo World Cup and FINA Women's Water Polo World Cup from 2023 on. Jessica Steffens
Jessica Marie Steffens (born April 7, 1987) is an American water polo player. She was a member of the United States national teams that won a silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics and a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She also played at Stanford University. Personal life Steffens was born in San Francisco, California to Peggy Schnugg and Carlos Steffens. Her father, a native of Puerto Rico, became interested in the sport of water polo after witnessing a match as a child in Puerto Rico. He played for Puerto Rico in three Pan American Games. Her father left the island and joined the water polo team of University of California, Berkeley where he became a three-time All-American, leading the California Golden Bears to the 1977 NCAA championship. In 1979, he was the PAC-10 player of the year in water polo. Jessica is tall and has two sisters and one brother, who all played water polo. Her sister Maggie is also on the U.S. national team. Olga Beliaeva or Olga Fomicheva (born 18 March 1985) is a Russian water polo player. At the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics, she competed for the Russia women's national water polo team in the women's event. She is tall. She won the gold medal at the 2006 European Championship in Belgrade, Serbia. Elizabeth Anne "Betsey" Armstrong (born January 31, 1983) is an American water polo Goalkeeper (water polo), goalkeeper, who won gold medals with the United States women's national water polo team at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2007 and 2011 Pan American Games, and 2007 and 2009 world championships. Sofia Evgenevna Konukh (russian: Софья Евгеньевна Конух, born 9 March 1980 in Chelyabinsk) is a Russian water polo player, who won the bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics, the first Olympic women's tournament in history. Adam Krikorian
Adam Krikorian (born July 22, 1974) is an American water polo coach and the head coach of the United States women's national water polo team. He coached the team to gold medals at the 2012 Olympic Games, 2016 Olympic Games, and 2020 Olympic Games. He was named the United States Olympic Committee's Coach of the Games for 2016. He won 15 NCAA national championships as player, assistant coach, and head coach at UCLA. Krikorian is the younger brother of Blake Krikorian and Jason Krikorian, founders of Sling Media. Margaret Ann Steffens (born June 4, 1993) is an American water polo player. She won the gold medal with the United States at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, Steffens set a new Olympic record for the most number of goals scored by an individual player in women's water polo at the Olympic Games. Early career Steffens played water polo at Monte Vista High School and helped the team win their league championship in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
