FINA Water Polo World League
The FINA Water Polo World League was an international water polo league organized by FINA, which plays annually, typically from winter through to June. League play featured continental tournaments for men and women, from which the top teams emerged to play in the championship tournament (the "Super Final") where the league champion team is crowned. Men's league play began in 2002, to capitalize on increased worldwide popularity of water polo created by the 2000 Olympic Games, especially in Europe, North America and Australia. The women’s league was added in 2004, based on growing interest in women's play. In October 2022, FINA announced that the tournament would be replaced with the FINA Water Polo World Cup and FINA Women's Water Polo World Cup from 2023 on. Sandro Sukno
Sandro Sukno (born 30 June 1990) is a Croatian former professional water polo player. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed for the Croatia national team in the men's event winning the gold medal. He also won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He last played for VK Jug. He currently works as an assistant coach of the senior men's Croatia national team. Sandro's father is Goran Sukno, water polo gold medalist for Yugoslavia at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Sandro was named Croatian water polo player of the year in 2014 and 2015, and best player in the 2014–15 Prva Liga. In December 2017, Sukno won the trophy for the best water polo player in the 2016–17 season. In 2017 he was named to the All-Star Team of the World Championships. Croatia also won the World Championship that year. In May 2019, he announced his retirement from playing professional water polo citing heart problems. Filip Filipović (water Polo)
Filip Filipović ( sr-Cyrl, Филип Филиповић; born 2 May 1987) is a Serbian water polo player widely considered to be one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. He was a member of the Serbia men's national water polo teams that won bronze medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and gold medals in 2016 and 2020. He also held the world title in 2009 and 2015 and the European title in 2003, 2006, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018. He was named ''Most Valuable Player'' at the 2011 World Championships. He was also voted as the male water polo "World Player of the Year" in 2011, 2014 and 2021 by the FINA magazine. He played for Pro Recco in Italy and won three LEN Champions League and three LEN Super Cup with them. Currently, he plays for Olympiacos.
