The 2011 NASL season was the first official season in FC Edmonton's existence. The club had played an exhibition season consisting of friendlies against various domestic and international opponents in 2010. FC Edmonton
FC Edmonton was a Canadian professional soccer club based in Edmonton, Alberta. The club was founded in 2010 and competed in the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 2011 to 2017. The club went on hiatus when NASL ceased competitive operations before the cancelled 2018 season. FC Edmonton competed in the Canadian Premier League from the league's inaugural season in 2019 until 2022. From 2012 onward, FC Edmonton's home field had been Clarke Stadium. History Formative years In February 2010, FC Edmonton was launched by brothers Tom Fath and Dave Fath as founding members of the North American Soccer League. The club spent the first year playing exhibition matches against teams including Colo Colo, the Spokane Spiders and Vitória, with a squad mostly represented by Albertan college students and amateur players. André Duberry (born August 24, 1982) is a Canadian soccer player who currently plays for FC Edmonton in the North American Soccer League. Michael Cox (born August 2, 1992) is a Canadian soccer player who last played as a forward for York9 in the Canadian Premier League. Career FC Edmonton Cox turned professional in 2010 as a 17-year-old when he signed with FC Edmonton. He played for Edmonton during its 2010 exhibition season, scoring Edmonton's first-ever goal in an exhibition win over Montreal Impact and continued his contract when the team formally joined the North American Soccer League in 2011. Paul Hamilton (soccer)
Paul Hamilton (born March 23, 1988) is a Canadian soccer player who currently plays for Edmonton Scottish. Previously having played professionally for the Vancouver Whitecaps, FC Edmonton and the Carolina Railhawks. Career Youth and College Hamilton played club soccer for the Calgary Foothills Irish, which he led to a U-18 Alberta Provincial Championship and a silver medal at the National Championships. He began his college soccer career at the University of Cape Breton in 2006, where he was named an AUS second team all-star and AUS Rookie of the Year. He transferred to Trinity Western University in 2007, where he played three years. Mutanda Kwesele
Mutanda Kwesele (born March 14, 1986 in Mufulira) is a Zambian footballer. Career Youth and college Kwesele moved from his native Zambia to the United States with his family as a child, settling in Seattle, Washington. He attended Seattle Preparatory School, where he was a two-time All-Metro and All-District selection, and began his college soccer at Santa Clara University. He transferred to Seattle University prior to his sophomore season in 2006, and played three seasons with the Redhawks, helping the team reach the NCAA tournament in back-to-back seasons in 2006 and 2007. He played in 42 games during his college career, recording two goals and five assists. Eddy Sidra
Eduard Mahir Sidra (born February 20, 1989 in Khartoum) is a Canadian soccer player. He is an attacking defender who often plays on the right side. He married Marie Gilada-Sidra on November 11, 2017. Shawn Chin
Shawn Chin (born May 11, 1989) is an American professional soccer player. Personal Chin is of Jamaican and Chinese descent. He was born and raised in Miami, Florida, and attended Felix Varela High School, where he was named Miami Player of the Year in 2007 as his school's leading scorer (58 goals), before going on to play two years of college soccer at Boston College. Paul Matthijs
Paul Matthijs (born 5 October 1976) is a Dutch professional football manager and former player who is the head coach of Vierde Divisie club Be Quick 1887. Playing career Matthijs started his football career with VV Actief, before joining FC Groningen. On 20 August 1997, Matthijs made his debut against FC Volendam as a substitute in the 80th minute. Then, he was only 20 years old. After three seasons playing regularly for FC Groningen, AZ Alkmaar signed him. Niko Saler
Niko Saler (born April 15, 1992) is a Canadian soccer player. Career Youth and amateur Saler, who did not play traditional college soccer, first achieved success at the U-15 level when he won the Rocky Mountain Cup with Team Alberta in 2007. Paul Craig (soccer)
Paul Craig (born March 14, 1988) is a Canadian soccer player most well known for his time spent with FC Edmonton. Career Youth and amateur Craig came to recognition through his performance with his university team, UPEI Panthers. Craig was team MVP, a CIS second team all-star, and was second in the country in goals in his last year with the Panthers. Craig then transferred to the University of Saskatchewan and after sitting out a season as per CIS rules, he went on to be a key component in getting the Huskies to a franchise best second-place finish in the CIS West, leading the team with nine assists in 13 games. Craig also found success at the amateur club level with the Avondale Islanders.
