The women's singles tournament of the 2011 BWF World Championships ( World Badminton Championships) was held from August 8 to 14. Wang Lin was the defending champion. Bae Youn-joo
Bae Yeon-ju (Hangul: 배연주, Hanja: 裵延姝; ; born 26 October 1990) is a retired international badminton player from South Korea. Career Bae started playing badminton at aged 10, and first gained international attention in 2006 when she reached the semifinals in the women's singles and won the gold medal as a member of the South Korean mixed team at the BWF World Junior Championships. Bae joined the South Korean national team in 2008 and in the same year she won her first international title at the Indonesia International tournament. Charmaine Reid
Charmaine Reid (born November 3, 1973) is a Canadian badminton player. Her home is in Calgary. Her coaching has been by Bryan Moody (a Canadian champion), Ardy Wiranata (Indonesian working in Canada and former World Champion), and Ken Poole (past president of the Canadian Badminton Coaches' Association). In 2004, she competed at the Summer Olympics in Athens in both singles and doubles. Reid won five Canadian National Championships between 2005 and 2007, two of them in women's singles, and three in women's doubles. She has won one gold and four silver medals at the Pan American Games. In 2016, she was inducted into Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame in recognition of her accomplishments and contribution to the sport of badminton around the world. Eriko Hirose
is a badminton player from Japan. Career She competed at the 2005 World Badminton Championships in Anaheim. In the women's singles event she reached the third round before losing to Wang Chen of Hong Kong. At the same year, she won the women's singles bronze medal at the Asian Championships after lose to her compatriot Kaori Mori in the semi final. In the 2010 BWF World Championship, she caused an upset over the world number one ranking player, Wang Yihan in the third round but lost to Wang Lin in the quarterfinals. In the 2011 All England Open, she came second in the women's singles, losing in the final to China's Wang Shixian. Yip Pui Yin
Yip Pui Yin (; born 6 August 1987) is a badminton player from Hong Kong. Career Yip played at the 2005 World Badminton Championships in Anaheim. In the women's singles event she reached the third round after beating Laura Molina of Spain and Kanako Yonekura (11th seed) in round one and round two respectively. In the third round she was beaten by the 1st seed and reigning world champion Zhang Ning of China. She won the silver medal in the 2006 Asian Games after losing to fellow Hong Kong player Wang Chen in the final. Sung Ji-hyun
Sung Ji-hyun (; born 29 July 1991) is a South Korean badminton player from Seoul. She is an Asian Championship gold medalist, a two-time Summer Universiade gold medalist, and a World Championship bronze medalist. She was also part of South Korean teams that won the 2010 Uber Cup, 2017 Sudirman Cup, as well the team event at the 2013 and 2015 Summer Universiade.
