2011 Asian Athletics Championships
The 19th Asian Athletics Championships were held in Kobe, Japan between July 7–10, 2011 at the Kobe Universiade Memorial Stadium. The tournament had 507 athletes from forty Asian nations competing in the 42 track and field events over the four-day competition. Two countries dominated the events: the host nation Japan won the most medals at the competition (32 overall, 11 golds), closely followed by China's eleven golds and 27 overall medal haul. The next most successful countries were Bahrain (which won five golds on the track through its former Ethiopian and Kenyan runners) and India, which won twelve medals. A total of eight Championship records were equalled or beaten at the competition. India's Mayookha Johny won the long jump and also broke the Indian record to take bronze in the triple jump. Gulustan Ieso
Gulustan Mahmood Ieso (born 1 August 1991), also known as Kolestan Mahmoud, is an Iraqi track and field athlete who competes in sprinting events. She holds a number of Iraqi records and helped win her country's first ever women's medals at the Asian Athletics Championships in 2011. She lost these medals as her doping sample at that competition came back positive for the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine, receiving a one-year ban for the infraction. Gretta Taslakian
Gretta Taslakian (born 16 August 1985) is a Lebanese sprinter of Armenian descent who specializes in the 200 metres. She is the first Lebanese woman to participate in two and three Olympic Games. Gretta is the current Lebanese national record holder in the outdoor 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters and indoor 60 meters and 200 meters. 1500 Metres
The 1500 metres or 1,500-metre run (typically pronounced 'fifteen-hundred metres') is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately miles. The event is closely associated with its slightly longer cousin, the mile race, from which it derives its nickname "the metric mile". The demands of the race are similar to that of the 800 metres, but with a slightly higher emphasis on aerobic endurance and a slightly lower sprint speed requirement. 800 Metres
The 800 metres, or meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional English racing distance. 800m is 4.67m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Runners in this event are occasionally fast enough to also compete in the 400 metres but more commonly have enough endurance to 'double up' in the 1500m. Mohammad Al-Azemi
Mohammad Mutlak Khalif Al-Azemi (Arabic: محمد خلف العازمي ; born 16 June 1982) is a Kuwaiti middle distance runner who specialises in the 800 metres. His 800 m personal bests of 1:44.13 minutes outdoors and 1:48.93 minutes indoors are the Kuwaiti records for the event. He represented his nation at the Olympic Games in 2004, 2008 and 2012, and has also made four appearances at the World Championships in Athletics (2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011).
