The 2010 Hull City Council election took place on 6 May 2010 to elect members of Hull City Council in England. One third of the council was up for election and Liberal Democrats retained control of the council. Hull City Council
(Kingston upon) Hull City Council is the governing body for the unitary authority and city of Kingston upon Hull. It was created in 1972 as the successor to the Corporation of (Kingston upon) Hull, which was also known as Hull Corporation and founded in 1440 by royal charter. Structure From 2002 until 2018 Hull City Council consisted of 59 councillors which are elected from 23 wards, each ward returning either two or three councillors. Following a review, in 2017, by the Local Government Boundary Commission this was reduced to 57 councillors from 21 wards effective from the 2018 elections. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them. Stephen Brady (British Politician)
Stephen Brady (born in Hull in 1945) was the Leader of Hull City Council, a unitary authority, from 2011 for the Labour Party. He stepped down from the position after the 2021 election. In 2018 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) following the success of Hull UK City of Culture 2017. Life and work Stephen Brady, known as Steve Brady, was born in Hull in 1945. His father was a dock worker who served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. He is of Irish descent. In his teens he was a member of the Young Christian Workers. Brady spent much of his working life at BP, Saltend, near Hull and later ran a newsagents shop in East Hull. Michael Hookem (born 9 October 1953) is a British politician who served as Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Yorkshire and the Humber from 2014 to 2019. A former member of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), Hookem served as UKIP's Deputy Leader under Gerard Batten from February 2018 until his resignation in May 2019 to run for the leadership. He also served as Spokesperson for Fisheries and Veterans Affairs from 2016 to 2019, and as Spokesperson for Defence in 2019 and previously from 2014 to 2016.
