The 2010 FINA Women's Water Polo World League was the seventh edition of the event, organised by the world's governing body in aquatics, the FINA. After playing in groups within the same continent, eight teams qualify to play in a final tournament, called the Super Final in La Jolla, California from June 28 to July 3, 2010. FINA Water Polo World League
The FINA Water Polo World League was an international water polo league organized by FINA, which plays annually, typically from winter through to June. League play featured continental tournaments for men and women, from which the top teams emerged to play in the championship tournament (the "Super Final") where the league champion team is crowned. Men's league play began in 2002, to capitalize on increased worldwide popularity of water polo created by the 2000 Olympic Games, especially in Europe, North America and Australia. The women’s league was added in 2004, based on growing interest in women's play. In October 2022, FINA announced that the tournament would be replaced with the FINA Water Polo World Cup and FINA Women's Water Polo World Cup from 2023 on. Play format Matches consisted of four eight-minute quarters, with a five-minute half-time break. Tie games were decided by an immediate penalty shootout. Jessica Marie Steffens (born April 7, 1987) is an American water polo player. She was a member of the United States national teams that won a silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics and a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She also played at Stanford University. Personal life Steffens was born in San Francisco, California to Peggy Schnugg and Carlos Steffens. Her father, a native of Puerto Rico, became interested in the sport of water polo after witnessing a match as a child in Puerto Rico. He played for Puerto Rico in three Pan American Games. Her father left the island and joined the water polo team of University of California, Berkeley where he became a three-time All-American, leading the California Golden Bears to the 1977 NCAA championship. Iefke Van Belkum
Iefke van Belkum (born 22 July 1986 in Leiden) is a water polo player of the Netherlands who represents the Dutch national team in international competitions. Van Belkum was part of the team that became 10th at the 2005 World Aquatics Championships in Montreal. At the 2006 FINA Women's Water Polo World League in Cosenza and the 2006 Women's European Water Polo Championship in Belgrade they finished in fifth place, followed by the 9th spot at the 2007 World Aquatics Championships in Melbourne. The Dutch team finished in fifth place at the 2008 Women's European Water Polo Championship in Málaga and they qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Elizabeth Anne "Betsey" Armstrong (born January 31, 1983) is an American water polo Goalkeeper (water polo), goalkeeper, who won gold medals with the United States women's national water polo team at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2007 and 2011 Pan American Games, and 2007 and 2009 world championships. Adam Krikorian
Adam Krikorian (born July 22, 1974) is an American water polo coach and the head coach of the United States women's national water polo team. He coached the team to gold medals at the 2012 Olympic Games, 2016 Olympic Games, and 2020 Olympic Games. He was named the United States Olympic Committee's Coach of the Games for 2016. He won 15 NCAA national championships as player, assistant coach, and head coach at UCLA. Margaret Ann Steffens (born June 4, 1993) is an American water polo player. She won the gold medal with the United States at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, Steffens set a new Olympic record for the most number of goals scored by an individual player in women's water polo at the Olympic Games. Early career Steffens played water polo at Monte Vista High School and helped the team win their league championship in 2007, 2008, and 2009. She also played for Diablo Water Polo in Alamo, California. College career Steffens attended Stanford University, playing on the women's water polo team from 2013 to 2017. Emily Feher
Emily Jane Feher (born March 29, 1985 in Orange, California) is a water polo goalkeeper from the United States. She was a member of the US Women's Water Polo Team that won the silver medal at the 2005 World Aquatics Championships in Montréal, Canada. Feher went to Foothill High School in Santa Ana, California and UCLA. At UCLA, she helped the Bruins win three NCAA National Water Polo Championships. Playing for head coach Adam Krikorian, she became the only goalkeeper who had won three national titles. Following her athletic career, Emily soon after pursued her philanthropic interests by joining the Peace Corps in Cameroon. She is currently serving as a Public Health Coordinator in Northern Cameroon.
