2010 European Korfball Championship
The 2010 European Korfball Championship was held in the Netherlands from October 22 to 31, with 16 national teams in competition. The tournament also served as a European qualifier for the 2011 Korfball World Championship, with the top nine nations qualifying for the world championship. First round The first round was played in Leeuwarden (A), Tilburg (B), Almelo (C) and The Hague (D). Second round Matches were played at Rotterdam. 2014 European Korfball Championship
The 2014 European Korfball Championship was held in Portugal from October 25 to November 2, with 16 national teams in competition. The tournament also served as a European qualifier for the 2015 Korfball World Championship, with the top ten nations qualifying for the world championship. Group stage The group stages took place in Maia. The IKF had implemented a new format of qualifying from the group stages. In these European Championships, the top eight nations were seeded in to pools A & B. In these pools the top three teams qualified for the quarter-finals. Almelo
Almelo () is a municipality and a city in the eastern Netherlands. The main population centres in the town are Aadorp, Almelo, Mariaparochie, and Bornerbroek. Almelo has about 72,000 inhabitants in the middle of the rolling countryside of Twente, with the industrial centres of Enschede and Hengelo as close neighbours but also with tourist towns like Ootmarsum, Delden and Markelo only a bicycle ride away. Golden Goal
The golden goal or golden point is a rule used in association football, lacrosse, field hockey, and ice hockey to decide the winner of a match (typically a knock-out match) in which scores are equal at the end of normal time. It is a type of sudden death. Under this rule, the game ends when a goal or point is scored; the team that scores that goal or point during extra time is the winner. Introduced formally in 1993, though with some history before that, the rule ceased to apply to most FIFA-authorized football games in 2004. The similar silver goal supplemented the golden goal between 2002 and 2004. The golden goal used to be played in NCAA matches up to 2021 but is still used in FIH sanctioned field hockey games. European Korfball Championship
European Korfball Championship or European Korfball A-Championship is a korfball competition for European national teams organized by the International Korfball Federation. It was played every four years from 1998 until 2014 and then moved to a tournament every two years, starting from 2016. The number of participated teams has varied between 8 and 16. The Netherlands national korfball team has won each edition. History From 2005 until 2013, the IKF organized the Korfball European Bowl for nations which had failed to qualify for the European Korfball Championship. In these tournaments it was possible to win places for the next European Korfball Championships and sometimes also IKF World Korfball Championships.
