2009–10 I Liga
The 2009–10 I liga was the 62nd season of Sports league, the second tier domestic division in the Polish football league system since its establishment in 1949 and the 2nd season of the I liga, Polish I liga under its current title. The league was operated by the Polish Football Association (PZPN). The league is contested by 18 teams who competing for promotion to the 2010–11 Ekstraklasa. The regular season was played in a round-robin tournament. The champions and runners-up would receive promotion. Unlike in previous seasons the third-placed team no longer had the opportunity to compete in playoffs for promotion, while the 13th and 14th placed teams no longer had to compete in play-outs to remain in the I liga. The bottom four teams were automatically demoted to the II liga. The season began on 1 August 2009, and concluded on 9 June 2010. I liga ( pl, Pierwsza liga, ), currently named Fortuna I liga due to its sponsorship by Fortuna, is the men's second professional association football division of the Polish football league system, below the Ekstraklasa and above the II liga via promotion/relegation systems. Run by the Polish Football Association (PZPN) since its inception on 30 May 1948. The league was renamed from Second League (II liga) to First League (I liga) in 2008. It is currently contested by 18 teams, from 2002 all clubs onwards must have a licence, issued by the Association.. The Polish Football Association ( pl, Polski Związek Piłki Nożnej; PZPN) is the governing body of association football in Poland. It organizes the Polish football leagues (without the Ekstraklasa), the Polish Cup and the Polish national football team. It is based in the Polish capital of Warsaw. History The fully independent federation was established 20 December 1919 engulfing the autonomous Polish Football Union (PFU) that was part of the disintegrated Austrian Football Union. Ekstraklasa
Poland Ekstraklasa (), meaning "Extra Class" in Polish, named PKO Ekstraklasa since the 2019–20 season due to its sponsorship by PKO Bank Polski, is the top Polish professional league for men's association football teams. Contested by 18 clubs, operating a system of promotion and relegation with the I liga, seasons start in July, and end in May or June the following year. Teams play a total of 34 games each. Games are played on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. The winner of the Ekstraklasa qualifies for the Polish SuperCup. The league is now operated by the Ekstraklasa Spółka Akcyjna. Warta Poznań () is a multi-sports club based in Poznań, Poland. The name means ''the Guard'' in Polish and also the name of the river Warta on which Poznań is located. Pogoń Szczecin Spółka Akcyjna, commonly referred to as Pogoń Szczecin (), is a Polish professional football club, based in Szczecin, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, which plays in the Ekstraklasa, the top tier of the national football league system. MKS Kluczbork is a football club based in Kluczbork, Opole Voivodeship, Poland. History The club was founded in 2003 as the merger of three local clubs: KKS Kluczbork (itself a result of merger in 1945 between ZKK Kluczbork and Cresovia Kluczbork), LKS Kuniów and the local inter-school sports organisation.
