Belgian Television
Television in Belgium was introduced in 1953 and began with one channel each in Dutch and French. The country is heavily cabled, with 93% of households watching television through cable as of 2003. History The three Belgian Communities – Dutch, French and German-speaking – have legal responsibility for audiovisual communication. They constitute separate markets, the common feature of which is the fact that they have been extensively cabled for three decades and are thus able to receive neighbouring countries' channels. Until 1978, Radio-Television Belgium ( nl, Belgische Radio- en Televisieomroep; french: Radio-Télévision Belge) was Belgium's national public television broadcaster. When broadcasting was devolved to the language communities in 1977, the old organization split into three separate organisations now known as VRT, RTBF and BRF respectively. Samson En Gert (TV Series)
''Samson & Gert'' is a Flemish children's television series produced by Eline van Noppen, centered on the talking dog Samson and his owner Gert. In its entire run, the show was originally aired on TV1 from Christmas Day 1989 until 1 December 1997, where it moved to Ketnet and continues airing all of its episodes to this day. History Originally Gert Verhulst was a continuity announcer. He wanted to make the announcements before children's television programmes more appealing by having an animal puppet next to him. He got in touch with puppeteer Danny Verbiest, who created the puppet dog Samson. Samson, a Bearded Collie, made his screen debut in the Christmas period of 1989. The pair's popularity grew very rapidly in Flanders and they were given their own television series in 1990. The show, named ''Samson'', premiered on 2 September 1990. Familie
''Familie'' (Dutch for Family) is a Flemish television soap opera set in Mechelen. Created by Herman Verbaet, ''Familie'' was first broadcast on 30 December 1991. Thuis
''Thuis'' ( en, At Home) is a Belgian television soap opera, which airs on één, which is in the hands of VRT, the national broadcasting channel of the Dutch-speaking region of Belgium, Flanders. ''Thuis'' first aired on 23 December 1995, featuring Pol Goossen, , , , , , Rik Andries and the late . ''Thuis'' grew to become Flanders' number one soap, gaining 900,000 viewers (compared to the highest rated TV show, receives 1.5 million viewers), and therefore beating competing for channel vtm's soap operas ''Familie'' ( en, Family) and former series ''Wittekerke'' ( en, White Church, a fictional town). Idool (TV Series)
Idool is the Belgian version of the Idol series. The series was launched in late 2002 by Belgian television network vtm. The contestants are first narrowed down to 100 contestants, and then down to 30-50 through several auditions and tests by a panel of judges. From this point on, the viewers decide who are in and who are out, and the judges limit themselves to commenting. TV viewers being what they are, the votes are based not solely on the singer's vocal performance, but also on his or her looks, clothes, entertainment value, and other factors. In difference to the versions from other countries of the franchise, several contestants achieved on-going success in the local music industry, most notably Natalia Druyts, runner-up from season one, who managed to sell over 400,000 albums, and over 1 million concert tickets between 2003 and 2010 in Flanders; and Hadise Açıkgöz, who did not even make the top 10 in Season 1 but nevertheless became a career musician who represented Turke ... Mega Mindy
''Mega Mindy'' is a Flemish children's television series with a supernatural/superhero drama theme. The series was created by Studio 100 and airs on the Flemish TV channel Ketnet. It centers around a young woman, Mieke, (Free Souffriau), who lives with her grandparents and works as a police officer but also has a secret identity as superhero Mega Mindy. She tries to keep it a secret, but falls in love with Toby (Louis Talpe) who also works at the police. He is in love with Mega Mindy and does not know that Mieke secretly likes him and is actually Mega Mindy. She tries to find a way to balance between work and being a superhero, but it is not always easy. Every episode has a new mystery that Mieke has to solve and one or more bad guys whom Mega Mindy takes down. Mieke's not-so-smart boss always tries to solve the case, but Mega Mindy usually ends up with the solution, which he does not appreciate. Acht (TV Channel)
Acht (Dutch for ''eight'') was a Belgian digital television channel, owned by the Concentra group. The channel was provided by Telenet, Belgacom TV, Numericable and TV Vlaanderen Digitaal. The channel broadcasts a different theme every night. Acht has a signed deal with HBO to broadcast its series. In 2016 the TV channel was sold to Medialaan (now DPG Media DPG Media Group is a Belgian media company also active in the Netherlands and Denmark. Dré Steemans
Dré Steemans (better known by his stage name Felice; 1 October 1954 – 9 October 2009) was a Belgian TV and radio host. Career Steemans made his broadcast debut on 1 September 1985 in the radioshow ''Het Genootschap'' of Luk Saffloer, in which he started using his alter ego Felice Damiano. After this success he presented on Thursday evening his first show ''Felice'' on the BRT. Soon afterwards he got his own talk show, ''Incredible''. One of the more infamous fragments in this show saw Jan Bucquoy using two figs to mimick Queen Fabiola's genitals. In 1992, he started with Herwig Van Hove for the VRT the cooking show '' 1000 seconden'', that aired for more than 10 years. Felice was perhaps most famous for the show '' Het Swingpaleis'', a sing along show that he presented from 1996 until 2006 on VRT.
