2009 World Championships In Athletics – Men's 4 × 400 Metres Relay
The men's 4 x 400 metres relay at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Olympic Stadium on August 22 and August 23. Britain's Conrad Williams looked to be leading the stagger on the first leg, but a late rush by Arismendy Peguero had the Dominican Republic making the handoff even, while USA put hurdler Angelo Taylor on the first leg, so they started with a slight deficit. Jeremy Wariner had won the previous two world championships in the open 400 metres, but lost his title a few days earlier. He had something to prove, flying through the turn, Wariner put the USA into the lead by the break. 2009 World Championships In Athletics
The 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics () were held in Berlin, Germany from 15–23 August 2009. The majority of events took place in the Olympiastadion, while the marathon and racewalking events started and finished at the Brandenburg Gate. Organization Bidding process Berlin was announced the winning bidder by the IAAF on 6 December 2004 beating out bids from Split (Croatia), Valencia (Spain), Brisbane (Australia), Brussels (Belgium), Delhi (India), Casablanca (Morocco) and Daegu (South Korea). The city of Berlin and the Deutscher Leichtathletik-Verband (German Athletics Association) are responsible for the organisation of the event. Yannick Fonsat
Yannick Fonsat (born 16 June 1988 in Paris, France) is a French sprinter who specialises in the 400 meters. He was the 2007 European Junior Champion at 400 metres. As French junior champion, he had run at the 2006 World Junior Championships in Athletics, but didn't make the finals. During the 2007 Indoor season, he set the French Junior record and ran with the senior 4x400 metres team at the 2007 European Athletics Indoor Championships. He was selected for the 2009 World Championships in Athletics – Men's 400 metres, but was unable to run after the bag containing his spikes were stolen. Finding a replacement a few days later, he ran on the French relay team where he came out of his exchange in dead last place, his final kick passed three other teams and brought France into close contention though they finished in seventh place. Michael Duane Johnson (born September 13, 1967) is an American retired sprinter who won four Olympic gold medals and 8 World Championships gold medals in the span of his career. He formerly held the world and Olympic records in the 200 m and 400 m, as well as the world record in the indoor 400 m. He also once held the world's best time in the 300 m. Johnson is generally considered one of the greatest and most consistent sprinters in the history of track and field. Johnson is the only male athlete in history to win both the 200 meters and 400 meters events at the same Olympics, a feat he accomplished at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Butch Reynolds
Harry Lee Reynolds Jr. (born June 8, 1964), commonly known as Butch Reynolds, is an American former track and field athlete who competed in the 400 meter dash. He held the world record for the event for 11 years with his personal best time of 43.29 seconds set in 1988. That year, he was the silver medalist at the 1988 Seoul Olympics (behind Steve Lewis) and a relay gold medalist. He was falsely accused and banned for drug use for two years by the IAAF; until The United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of Reynolds due to an apparent drug testing procedural flaw. Quincy D. Watts (born June 19, 1970) is an American former athlete, and two time gold medallist at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Career Born in Detroit, Michigan, Quincy Watts attended the University of Southern California (USC) where he excelled as a general athlete and a wide receiver on the college football team. He took up track at Sutter Middle School and later went to Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California, a neighborhood in Los Angeles. In 1987, he ran a 10.36s 100 m, which stands as the Los Angeles city section record, and at the time was the second fastest in CIF history, behind only Henry Thomas' 10.25 in 1985. Andrew Orlando Valmon (born January 1, 1965) is an American former 400 meters runner. Valmon was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Manchester Township, New Jersey, where he attended Manchester Township High School. He attended college at Seton Hall University and graduated in 1987 with a degree in communications. Valmon won the silver medal at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in 1991 in Seville. In 1992 he won a gold medal with the American 4 × 400 m relay team at the Olympic Games in Barcelona. The same year, Valmon set his personal best of 44.28 seconds. Joel Milburn (born 17 March 1986) is an Australian Dual Olympic 400m sprinter. His Personal Best time for the 400m is 44.80 seconds which he achieved in at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
