The 2009 Saskatchewan (SaskTel) Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Saskatchewan's women's provincial curling championship, was held January 28 – February 1 at the Swift Current Curling Club in Swift Current. Yorkton
Yorkton is a city located in south-eastern Saskatchewan, Canada. It is about 450 kilometres north-west of Winnipeg and 300 kilometres south-east of Saskatoon and is the sixth largest city in the province. As of 2017 the census population of the city was 19,643. Tammy Schneider
Tammy Schneider (born November 12, 1982, in Regina, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler from Kronau, Saskatchewan. She currently plays third for her sister, Kim. Career Juniors Schneider grew up in the small village of Kronau, Saskatchewan, outside of Regina. She and her sister and teammate Kim were the daughters of 1990 provincial champion lead Larry Schneider. In 1998, Schneider won a silver medal at the Saskatchewan Winter Games. Schneider played in three Saskatchewan junior championships, but never won. In 2003, she was invited to play as the alternate for team Canada at the 2003 World Junior Curling Championships. Schneider played in just one match, but the team (skipped by Marliese Miller won a gold medal. Kim Dawn Schneider (born August 21, 1984) is a Canadian curler. She currently plays third on Team Amber Holland. Career Juniors Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Schneider grew up in the small village of Kronau, Saskatchewan outside of Regina. She and her sister and teammate Tammy were the daughters of 1990 provincial champion lead Larry Schneider. In 2003 and 2004, Schneider played in the Saskatchewan junior championships, but never won. 2005–2012 After juniors, Schneider teamed up with Amber Holland, along with her sister Tammy Schneider and Heather Kalenchuk. In 2008, the team won their only Grand Slam event, the 2008 Players' Championships. In 2009 the team would earn a spot in the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials, after defeating Marie-France Larouche in the C Qualifier. Amber Holland
Amber Holland (born July 10, 1974) is a Canadian curler from Loreburn, Saskatchewan. Holland skipped Saskatchewan's team to a national women's championship in 2011 by defeating defending champion Jennifer Jones in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and won a silver medal at the 2011 Capital One World Women's Curling Championship. She also won a national championship at the junior level in 1992, and captured a silver medal at the World Junior Curling Championships in 1993 after losing in the final. Roberta Materi
Roberta Materi (born April 6, 1975 in Regina, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler from White City, Saskatchewan. Life Materi has played with Michelle Englot off and on since 1997. She missed two seasons (2004–05 and 2005–06) since then to have children. Materi played in her first national championship when the rink qualified for the 2001 Scott Tournament of Hearts. The team finished with a 4-7 record, missing the playoffs. Later that year, the team finished 5-4 at the 2001 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials, also missing the playoffs. The team would not return to the Hearts until 2008, where the team finished 5-6, missing the playoffs again. Later that year, they picked up their only Grand Slam victory, winning the 2008 Casinos of Winnipeg Classic. Deanna Doig (born March 13, 1972 in Bethune, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler from Emerald Park, Saskatchewan. Career Doing has been active on the World Curling Tour since the 2005–06 season, when she joined the Heather Rankin rink as her third. In their first season, the team played in the 2006 Canada Cup of Curling, finishing with a 1–4 record. The next season, the team played in several Grand Slam events, making the quarterfinals at the 2006 Trail Appliances Autumn Gold Curling Classic. The following season, the team played made it to the quarterfinals of the 2007 Casinos of Winnipeg Classic and went 0–5 at the 2008 Canada Cup of Curling. Michelle Englot
Michelle Englot (born January 22, 1964 in Montmartre, Saskatchewan; formerly known as Michelle Ridgway and Michelle Schneider); is a Canadian curler from Regina, Saskatchewan. She currently plays second on Team Brooklyn Stevenson. She is a nine-time provincial champion skip. Career Englot started curling at age twelve, and represented Saskatchewan at the 1983 Canada Winter Games. Englot won her first Saskatchewan Scott Tournament of Hearts provincial championship in 1988, she defeated Kathy Fahlman 10–0 in the final. This qualified Englot for her first Tournament of Hearts national championship. Tartan Curling Club
Tartan ( gd, breacan ) is a patterned cloth consisting of criss-crossed, horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours. Tartans originated in woven wool, but now they are made in other materials. Tartan is particularly associated with Scotland, as Scottish kilts almost always have tartan patterns. Tartan is made with alternating bands of coloured (pre-dyed) threads woven as both warp and weft at right angles to each other. The weft is woven in a simple twill, two over—two under the warp, advancing one thread at each pass.
