National Lacrosse League
The National Lacrosse League (NLL) is a men's professional box lacrosse league in North America. The league is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The NLL currently has fifteen teams: ten in the United States and five in Canada. The NLL ranks third in average attendance for pro indoor sports worldwide, behind only the National Hockey League, NHL and National Basketball Association, NBA. Unlike other box lacrosse leagues which play in the summer, the NLL plays its games in the winter and spring, from December to June. Each year, the playoff teams battle for the National Lacrosse League Cup. The NLL has averaged between 8,900 and 10,700 spectators per game each year since 2004. David Mitchell (lacrosse)
David Mitchell (born March 12, 1984 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian lacrosse player who plays for the Philadelphia Wings in the National Lacrosse League. College career Mitchell is a graduate of Cornell University. As a senior he was awarded with second All-American team honors, and named to the first All-Ivy League team while leading the Big Red to the 2007 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship Final Four. Professional career Major League Lacrosse Mitchell was selected by the Boston Cannons as a first round selection (8th overall) in the 2007 MLL Draft Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft. Pat Heim
Patrick Pat Heim (born May 25, 1984 in Wayne, Pennsylvania) is a professional lacrosse player who plays for the Boston Cannons in Major League Lacrosse and the Philadelphia Wings in the National Lacrosse League. High school career Heim attended Conestoga High School in Berwyn, PA where he played football, wrestling, and lacrosse. In his senior year at Conestoga, Heim was ranked the #1 wrestler at 189 lbs in Southeastern Pennsylvania. College career Heim attended Penn State University where he was named to the All- ECAC First Team three times during his Nittany Lion career. Professional career Heim was the 2007 Major League Lacrosse first overall collegiate draft choice by the Chicago Machine. George Castle (lacrosse)
George Castle (born October 8, 1984) from Glenside, Pennsylvania, is an American lacrosse player previously with the Philadelphia Wings of National Lacrosse League. He is a defensive midfielder. A William Penn Charter School graduate, Castle played collegiate lacrosse with the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays where he helped his team win two national championships. In December 2008, he joined the Philadelphia Wings as a free agent for the 2009 season, primarily as a defensive player. Castle's father, J.R. Castle, played on the Wings' inaugural team during its 1987 season. In 2012, Castle was selected in the 4th round of the 2012 North American Lacrosse League draft (23rd overall) and played for the Stickhorses in their 2013 NALL campaign. Mike Leveille
Mike Leveille (born December 25, 1985) is a former professional lacrosse player with the Chicago Machine of Major League Lacrosse. He was an All-American at Syracuse University, and was awarded the Tewaaraton Trophy in 2008. Professional career Leveille was drafted in the 2008 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate draft by the New Jersey Pride, and was to the Chicago Machine hours later. Sean Thomson
Sean Thomson (born January 28, 1985) is a Canadian lacrosse player who plays for the Minnesota Swarm in the National Lacrosse League. Thomson played one season for the Philadelphia Wings before being traded to the Swarm in 2010 for Kevin Colleluori. Thomson was a member of the Peterborough Lakers during their 2007 Mann Cup championship season. While attending Guelph University, Thomson was a member of the Gryphons who won the 2008 Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association championship. Though he did not play for the Gryphons in 2008, he is expected to play in 2009. He was also named 2008 Burlington Male Athlete of the Year Award. The National Lacrosse League entry draft is an annual event where the general managers of National Lacrosse League teams choose eligible players for their rosters from US college programs and Canada's junior lacrosse system. The National Lacrosse League dispersal draft is a meeting where the general managers of National Lacrosse League teams choose players from teams that are ceasing operations. The NLL has seen many team changes over the years (the 1993 season was the last time the league had no team changes over the previous season), so dispersal drafts have been commonplace. Jamie Rooney (born July 31, 1984 in Arthur, Ontario) is a Canadian lacrosse player who plays for the Buffalo Bandits in the National Lacrosse League. Professional career Rooney began his professional career with the Philadelphia Wings in the 2008 NLL season. He was drafted by the Wings in the second round (22nd overall) of the 2007 National Lacrosse League dispersal draft from the Arizona Sting. Peter Jacobs (born February 27, 1973) is a former professional lacrosse player. Jacobs graduated from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD in 1995. Jason Crosbie (born June 25, 1975 in Bowmanville, Ontario) is a Canadian former lacrosse player who is currently an assistant coach in the National Lacrosse League for the New York Riptide. NLL Crosbie began his career in 2001 with the Rochester Knighthawks, then played with the Montreal Express in 2002 (where he holds the franchise record for penalty minutes - the team's only year in existence).
