2009 Pacific Cup
The 2009 Pacific Cup, known as the 2009 SP Brewery Pacific Cup due to sponsorship, was a rugby league competition held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The competing teams were the , , , , . Tonga, Fiji and PNG had their places in the draw confirmed initially, with the Cook Islands defeating Samoa in a Pacific Cup qualifier in Cairns on 17 October 2009 to decide which team took the final place in the tournament. The four Pacific Cup matches were played at Lloyd Robson Oval on 24–25 October and 31 October. The Pacific Cup final was played on 1 November 2009 between Papua New Guinea and the Cook Islands. By winning the 2009 Pacific Cup, Papua New Guinea won the right to compete in the 2010 Four Nations tournament. John Wilshere
John Wilshere (born 5 May 1978) is a Papua New Guinean former professional rugby league footballer who last played for the Salford Red Devils, Salford City Reds. Playing career Wilshere had represented Papua New Guinea many times and was a key player in their squad at the 2008 Rugby League World Cup in Australia. His previous clubs included the Leigh Centurions, Warrington Wolves and the National Rugby League's St George Illawarra Dragons and Melbourne Storm. Misi Taulapapa
Misi Taulapapa (born 25 January 1982) is a Samoa international rugby league footballer who plays as a or er for Doncaster in Betfred League 1. He has previously played for the New Zealand Warriors and the Cronulla Sharks in the NRL, and the Sheffield Eagles and Featherstone Rovers in the Championship. Taulapapa has also played for the Newcastle Thunder in League 1. Early years Taulapapa was born Auckland, New Zealand. Jessie Joe Nandye (born 22nd Aug 1985), also commonly known by his former name Jessie Joe Parker, is a Papua New Guinean former rugby league footballer who last played as a for Whitehaven in Betfred League 1. Playing career After several impressive seasons in the PNG domestic league, Parker signed with the Northern Pride of the Queensland Cup in 2009. In 2010, he joined the Featherstone Rovers. Jason Chan (born 26 January 1984) is a former Papua New Guinea international rugby league footballer who played for the Celtic Crusaders, the Huddersfield Giants and the Hull Kingston Rovers in the Super League, primarily as a , but also as a or . Background He was born in Sydney, Australia. He is of Chinese descent. Early career Chan played junior football for the Windsor Wolves in the Jim Beam Cup. Emmanuel Menzie Yere (born 24 October 1983) is a Papua New Guinean professional rugby league footballer who plays for the Sheffield Eagles whom he played with in the 2000s and 2010s.
