2008 Cyprus Cup
The 2008 Cyprus Women's Cup was the inaugural edition of the Cyprus Women's Cup, an invitational women's football tournament held annually in Cyprus. Six national teams, including five senior teams and one youth team, were invited: Canada, Netherlands, Japan, Russia, Scotland, and the United States U-20 team (the United States senior team competed in the concurrent 2008 Algarve Cup). Canada defeated the United States U-20 team in the final. Format The tournament consisted of a group stage held over three match days followed by a single day of classification matches to determine the final standings. For the group stage, the six teams were split into two groups of three teams. Each group played a round-robin tournament with each team playing one match against each other team in its group. Makario Stadium
Makario Stadium ( el, Μακάρειο Στάδιο), is an all-seater multi-purpose stadium in Nicosia, Cyprus. It was the largest and main sports venue of the capital up to the construction of the GSP stadium in 1999. At present it is mostly used for football matches and is the home ground of Digenis Morphou, and Ethnikos Assia. The stadium holds 15,590 seated spectators. The playing field is surrounded by a running track and can be adapted to hold most track and field events. Apart from corporate boxes and the press centre, there are no coverings for spectators. It is built in the Nicosia suburb of Makedonitissa, close to the grounds of the Cyprus State Fair, with which it shares a large car park. Jessica Anne Clarke (born 5 May 1989) is an English footballer who plays as a winger or forward for FA Women's Championship club Durham and the England national team. Emily Elizabeth Westwood (born 5 April 1984) is an English football player. She is an attacking midfielder for England women and Birmingham City Ladies, but has filled in as an emergency defender when needed.
