2009 Croatian Local Elections
The 2009 Croatian local elections were held on 17 May, with the second round held on 31 May where necessary. The elections elected a total of 866 members of county assemblies and 51 members of the City Assembly of the City of Zagreb, as well as 2,206 members of city councils and 5,343 municipal councils. A total of 2,982 candidate lists with 46,324 candidates were submitted for 21 county assemblies and the City Assembly of the City of Zagreb, as well as for 126 city councils and 429 municipal councils. In addition, 429 municipal mayors and 435 deputy mayors, 126 city mayors and 194 deputy mayors, 21 prefects and 42 deputy prefects and mayor of the City of Zagreb with his deputies were elected. Kutjevo, Otok and Sveta Nedelja are cities where for the first time was elected city mayor instead municipal mayor. Croatian Democratic Union
The Croatian Democratic Union ( hr, Hrvatska demokratska zajednica, lit=Croatian Democratic Community, HDZ) is the major conservative, centre-right political party in Croatia. It is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Croatia, along with the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SDP). It is currently the largest party in the Sabor with 61 seats. Bjelovar-Bilogora County
Bjelovar-Bilogora County (; hr, Bjelovarsko-bilogorska županija ) is a county in central Croatia. The central town of Bjelovar was first mentioned in 1413, and it only gained importance when a new fort was built in 1756 to defend against the Ottoman invasions. The town was pronounced a free royal town in 1874. The other part of the county name is for the hill of Bilogora that stretches along the northern edge of the county. Other towns in the county are Daruvar, Garešnica, Čazma and Grubišno Polje. Međimurje County
Međimurje County (; hr, Međimurska županija ; hu, Muraköz megye) is a triangle-shaped Counties of Croatia, county in the northernmost part of Croatia, roughly corresponding to the historical and geographical region of Međimurje (region), Međimurje. Despite being the smallest Croatian county by size, it is the most densely populated one (not including the Zagreb, City of Zagreb). The county seat is Čakovec, which is also the largest city of the county. The Croatian Party of Rights ( hr, Hrvatska stranka prava or HSP) is an extra-parliamentary nationalist political party in Croatia. The "right(s)" in the party's name refer to the legal and moral reasons that justify the independence and autonomy of Croatia. Siniša Hajdaš Dončić (born 29 June 1974) is a Croatian politician and member of the center-left Social Democratic Party. Democratic Party of Zagorje ( hr, Zagorska demokratska stranka or ZDS) is a right-wing political party from Krapina-Zagorje and Varaždin counties in Croatia. Krapina-Zagorje County (, hr, Krapinsko-zagorska županija) is a Counties of Croatia, county in northern Croatia, bordering Slovenia.
