2008–09 Hong Kong First Division League
The 2008–09 Hong Kong First Division League season, known as Coolpoint Ventilation First Division () for sponsorship reasons, was the 97th since its establishment in 1908. It began on 6 September 2008 and ended on 10 May 2009. The unveiling match was contested by the defending champions South China, and the runners-up of last season Citizen. They made a 1–1 draw, scored by Sandro of Citizen and Detinho of South China, China. Three new teams joined the league as competition members, including Fourway, TSW Pegasus and Xiangxue Eisiti. The league consisted of 13 teams, the most since the 1979–80 season. Hong Kong First Division League
The Hong Kong First Division League () is the second-highest division in the Hong Kong football league system. Established in 1908, it is the third oldest in Asia. The league was formerly the highest division in Hong Kong until the formation of the Hong Kong Premier League in 2014. Since 1908, a total of 29 clubs have been crowned champions of the Hong Kong football system. South China are the most successful club, having won 41 times since their first participation in 1941. Competition format Each team plays the other teams in the division twice, one home and one away game. The ticket profits go to the home team. If there are two matches in the same stadium on the day, the profits are shared between the two home teams. The top two teams in the league are offered promotion to the Premier League while the bottom two are relegated to the Hong Kong Second Division. 2009–10 Hong Kong First Division League
The 2009–10 Hong Kong Football Association First Division League (known as HKFA bma First Division League for sponsorship reasons) was the 98th top tier football league of Hong Kong. Because of the renovation of Mong Kok Stadium which will last for two league seasons, the current First Division League has allocated eight stadia for the eleven participating teams to play their home games. The inaugural match was held between South China and Tai Chung on 6 September 2009. It was the first time since 1987–88 season that the inaugural match was not played between the former season champion and runner-up. Hong Kong Football Association disqualified Tuen Mun Progoal on 27 November 2009 due to Tuen Mun Progoal defaulting on labour insurance. The title was won by South China, their fourth title in a row. Workable FC
Workable Football Club () was a Hong Kong football club which played in the Hong Kong First Division League in the 2007–08 season. It borrowed the entities of Shek Kip Mei to compete in the league. History The team got the 1st runner-up in Hong Kong Third A Division League in 2005–06 season and qualified into Third Division League Final Round to fight for 2 promotion positions among 4 teams. Shek Kip Mei topped the table and was promoted to Second Division. After the promotion, the team added a few former Hong Kong national football team players to strengthen the team for further promotion to the First Division. Lanwa FC (), officially Dongguan Lanwa Football Club () was a Chinese professional association football club located in Dongguan, China. The club was founded in 1999 and played in the Chinese and Hong Kong football systems. History Lanwa was founded in 1999 as Gansu Tianma (), and originally played in the Chinese football system. Tai Po Football Club (), also known as Wofoo Tai Po due to sponsorship reasons, is a Hong Kong professional football club which currently competes in the Hong Kong Premier League. Xiangxue Eisiti (Hong Kong)
Shenzhen F.C. II, known as Xiangxue Eisiti for sponsorship reason, was a Chinese football team which played in Hong Kong First Division League in 2008–09 season. It was the reserve team of Shenzhen F.C., known as Shenzhen Xiangxue Eisiti (''Shenzhen Xiangxue Shangqingyin'') for sponsorship reasons at that time. Home ground Xiangxue Eisiti wanted to host its games at the sports ground of Shenzhen Bogang F.C. in Shajing, Bao'an District, but after inspection by the HKFA, the ground was considered unsuitable to host any league games. Instead, Xiangxue Eisiti had to play all their home games at Mong Kok Stadium or Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground.
