2008–09 Georgian Cup
The 2008–09 Georgian Cup (also known as the ''David Kipiani Cup'') was the sixty-fifth season overall and nineteenth since independence of the Georgian annual football tournament. The competition began on 30 August 2008 and ended with the Final held on 30 May 2009. The defending champions are Zestafoni. Round of 32 The first legs were played on 1 August and the second legs were played on 4 August 2008. Section West Section East Round of 16 In this round entered winners from the previous round as well as three teams that finished first, second and third in last year's Umaglesi Liga: Dinamo Tbilisi, WIT Georgia and Zestafoni. The first legs were played on August 30 and 31 and the second legs were played on September 16 and 17, 2008. FC Zestafoni
Football Club Zestafoni is a Georgian football club based in Zestafoni. They play their home games at David Abashidze Stadium. Zestafoni was founded on 18 June 2004 by the initiative of the shareholders of JSC Giorgi Nikoladze Zestafoni Ferro-Alloy Plant. At that time Zestafoni have their own club FC Metallurg Zestafoni. A new club was formed as Margveti Zestafoni joined Pirveli Liga and promoted in the first season. Margveti was a member of Umaglesi Liga and achieved their best result in 1995–96 by finishing runner-up. FC Chiatura
FC Magaroeli is a Georgia (country), Georgian football (soccer), football club from Chiatura. Following the 2022 season they were relegated to Regionuli Liga, the fifth tier of Football in Georgia (country), Georgian football system. The team has twice participated in the top tier. History Formed in 1923, Chiatura won the Georgian championship in 1975, and also clinched the domestic Cup title in 1978 and 1979. The club spent four seasons in the Soviet Second League, Soviet Second league. In 1992/93 season the club finished second in Pirveli Liga which paved the way for Umaglesi Liga 1993-94, Umaglesi Liga in 1993/94. Magaroeli participated in the top flight also in 1997/98. FC Gagra
FC Gagra ( ka, გაგრა) is a Georgia (country), Georgian association football, football club, which competes in Erovnuli Liga, the first tier of Football in Georgia (country), Georgian league system. The club has its origins in Gagra, Abkhazia. It was founded in Tbilisi by former player and coach Goderdzi Chikhradze and his cousin in 2004 with a plan to move the club to Gagra in the end, but due to the enduring Abkhaz–Georgian conflict the team plays its home games in Tbilisi. FC Aragvi Dusheti
FC Aragvi Dusheti, or simply Aragvi Dusheti ( ka, სკ დუშეთის არაგვი) is a Georgian association football club from Dusheti, currently based in Tbilisi. Following the 2023 season, the team won Liga 3 and advanced to Erovnuli Liga 2, the second tier of Georgian football. History Established in 1954, during the Soviet period Aragvi mainly participated in the East group of Georgian republican league 2. In the 2008–09 season, the team played in the Meore Liga. Shiola Shiolashvili led the team to first place in the third tier. In 2009–10 season the team had the opportunity to participate in the Pirveli Liga next year, but some financial problems made this goal unachievable. FC Locomotive Tbilisi
FC Locomotive Tbilisi is a Georgian football club from the capital, Tbilisi. During the existence of the USSR the club was a part of the Lokomotiv Voluntary Sports Society. The club has strong connections with the Georgian Railways. History Locomotive was founded on 14 August 1936 as a part of Lokomotiv sports society. The club won Georgian championship in 1937, which gave them the permission to participate in USSR Top League. Their debut season in the highest level of the Soviet football championship came in 1938, where the club took 24th place out of 26 and got relegated. FC Norchi Dinamoeli ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი ნორჩი დინამოელი) is a Georgian football club based in Tbilisi. They play in Erovnuli Liga 2 since they were promoted in 2017. FC Sioni is a Georgian football club based in Bolnisi. Following the 2022 season, they were relegated to Erovnuli Liga Liga 2, the second tier of Georgian league system. FC Kakheti Telavi
FC Kakheti Telavi was a Georgian football club based in Telavi. They played in the Umaglesi Liga, the top division in Georgian football from 2005 to 2007, but were relegated to Pirveli Liga, the Georgian second division. The club did not win a match in their relegation season of 2006–07. Kakheti Telavi finished seventh in the Pirveli Liga's Eastern (or Aghmoslaveti) Zone in the 2007–08 season. FC Ameri Tbilisi
FC Ameri Tbilisi was a Georgian football club based in the district of Gldani in Tbilisi. The club was founded in 2002 and was dissolved in 2009 after a financial troubles. Ameri won promotion for the Second Division after the 2002–03 season. In 2003/04 they finished 12th out of 16 and were to be relegated, but were saved after withdrawal of two teams. FC Kolkheti Khobi is a Georgian association football club based in the town of Khobi. Following the 2022 season they won promotion to Erovnuli Liga 2, the second tier of Georgian league system. FC Merani Martvili is a Georgian association football club based in Martvili, which currently takes part in Liga 2, the second division of Georgian league system. Being one of the youngest clubs, Merani have spent five seasons in the top division and once reached the final of David Kipiani Cup.
