The 2008 Evergrande Real Estate World Team Table Tennis Championships was held in the Guangzhou Gymnasium of Guangzhou, China from February 24 to March 2, 2008. This decision was announced in May 2005. It is the 49th edition to be contested. Guangzhou Gymnasium
The Guangzhou Gymnasium () is an indoor arena in Guangzhou. The arena is used as a concert venue and for sporting events such as arena football, basketball, badminton and table tennis. It was constructed between 11 February 1999 and opened on 30 June 2001, with a seating capacity of 10,000. It was designed by Paul Andreu. Cheung Yuk
Cheung Yuk (; born October 28, 1981, in Jiangsu, People's Republic of China) is a Hong Kong table tennis player. As of February 2013, Cheung was ranked no. 80 in the world by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). Cheung is also left-handed, and uses the offensive, shakehand grip. Table tennis career Representing his adopted nation Hong Kong, Cheung made his official debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he competed in both the singles and doubles tournament. Wang Nan (table Tennis)
Wang Nan (; born October 23, 1978 in Fushun, Liaoning) is a female Chinese table tennis player from Liaoning. Wang remained as world #1 on the ITTF ranking system from January, 1999 to November, 2002. She is left-handed, and began playing table tennis when she was seven years old. Her particular skills are changing the placement of the ball during rallies and her loop drive, as well as her notable speed. Wang has been the leader of the women's table-tennis team of China after Deng Yaping's retirement. Li Xiaoxia (; born 16 January 1988) is a Chinese table tennis Grand Slam champion. Career She trained in the Jiangsu Wuxi Shanhe Club in Wuxi, China. Her trainer is Li Sun, who is also the mentor of Olympic gold medal winner Zhang Yining. As of April 2011, she occupies the top place on the ITTF women's world ranking. In terms of achievements, she is one of the most successful female table tennis players (alongside Ding Ning, Deng Yaping, Wang Nan, Zhang Yining) having won the gold medal in each of the Table Tennis World Cup, the Table Tennis World Championships, and the Olympic Games. Guo Yue (table Tennis)
Guo Yue (; born July 17, 1988 in Anshan, Liaoning) is a Chinese table tennis player and the 2007 women's world champion. Controversy ensued in China when Guo Yue was kicked out of the National Table Tennis Team in 2015 for "poor behaviour" and lack of interest. As of 2015, she had left the table tennis field and was studying finance at Tsinghua University. Career She was a left-handed shakehand attack player and came from Liaoning, China, the province where Wang Nan, Chang Chenchen and Li Jia (all left-handed players) came from. Kaii Yoshida
Kaii Yoshida ( ja, 吉田 海偉; zh, s=宋海伟, p=Sòng Hǎiwěi; born 16 May 1981) is a Chinese-born Japanese table tennis player who is ranked among the top fifty athletes in his sport. Yoshida started playing table tennis at the age of 7 in the Hebei Institute of Physical Education under coach Liu Wenqing. He is a right handed pen hold grip player. Unlike the Chinese player Wang Hao, he only uses one side of his racket. Yoshida was spotted by a Japanese Coach in 1997. Jun Mizutani
is a retired Japanese table tennis player. He became the youngest Japanese national champion at the age of 17. His consecutive singles titles at the national championships from 2007 to 2011 made him the first man to win the event five times in a row. After defeating Vladimir Samsonov for the bronze medal by 4–1 in the 2016 Rio Olympics, he finally seized his first singles medal in the three main international tournaments.
