Autumn Gold Curling Classic
The Curlers Corner Autumn Gold Curling Classic is an annual women's World Curling Tour event held at the Calgary Curling Club in Calgary, Alberta. It was the first Grand Slam event of the season from 2006 to 2014, but is no longer considered one of the official Grand Slams. The first Autumn Gold Classic was held in 1978, and at the time only had a total purse of $10,500, with the winning team receiving $4,000. At the time, it had the largest purse for a women's curling tournament in Canada. Its main sponsor in 1978 was JoAnne's Fashions. The event began seeing international teams in 1987, thanks in part to the sport being added as a demonstration event at the 1988 Winter Olympics. The 1996 and 2000 events were qualifiers for the 1997 and 2001 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials respectively. Susan O'Connor
Susan O'Connor (born May 3, 1977) is a Canadians, Canadian curling, curler from Calgary, Alberta. She is an Olympic silver medallist. Career In 2000, O'Connor played third for Kevin Koe at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. The team, which also included Greg Northcott and Lawnie MacDonald, won the championship. In 2007, O'Connor won her first provincial championship playing third for Cheryl Bernard, and represented Team Alberta at the 2007 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. They again represented Alberta at the Scotties in 2009 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, 2009. At the 2008 Canadian Mixed Championship, O'Connor played third for Dean Ross, and won her second Mixed title with team mates Tim Krassman and Susan Wright (curler), Susan Wright. Glenys Bakker
Glenys Bakker (born August 27, 1962 in High River, Alberta) is a Canadian curler from Calgary, Alberta. Bakker played second for Shannon Kleibrink's bronze medal winning team at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Bakker played for Shannon Kleibrink for most of her curling career. At the 1993 Scott Tournament of Hearts, Bakker was Kleibrink's Alternate. She was Kleibrink's third at the 1997 Canadian Olympic Trials where the team lost to Sandra Schmirler in the final. In 2004, she was Kleibrink's second at the 2004 Scott Tournament of Hearts where they finished with a 6–5 record. Diane Foster (curler)
Diane Foster ( Anderson; born c. 1955 or 1956) is a Canadian curler from Calgary. She is a former World Senior Curling Champion. Early life Foster grew up near Kelvington, Saskatchewan, and Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan and as a junior made it as far as the Saskatchewan provincial junior championships. Foster spent two years in Houston, Texas when her husband worked for an oil company there, before moving to Edmonton, and then to Calgary in 1985. Women's career Foster's only appearance at the national Tournament of Hearts was in 1986 as the alternate for the Alberta team, skipped by Lil Werenka. The team went 4–7, though Foster did not play any games. Foster did not qualify for the Alberta Tournament of Hearts provincial women's championship until 1996, even despite being the leading money earner in Canadian women's curling one season. Roberta Materi (born April 6, 1975 in Regina, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler from White City, Saskatchewan. Life Materi has played with Michelle Englot off and on since 1997. She missed two seasons (2004–05 and 2005–06) since then to have children. Materi played in her first national championship when the rink qualified for the 2001 Scott Tournament of Hearts. The team finished with a 4-7 record, missing the playoffs. Later that year, the team finished 5-4 at the 2001 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials, also missing the playoffs. The team would not return to the Hearts until 2008, where the team finished 5-6, missing the playoffs again. Later that year, they picked up their only Grand Slam victory, winning the 2008 Casinos of Winnipeg Classic. Deanna Doig (born March 13, 1972 in Bethune, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler from Emerald Park, Saskatchewan. Career Doing has been active on the World Curling Tour since the 2005–06 season, when she joined the Heather Rankin rink as her third. In their first season, the team played in the 2006 Canada Cup of Curling, finishing with a 1–4 record. The next season, the team played in several Grand Slam events, making the quarterfinals at the 2006 Trail Appliances Autumn Gold Curling Classic. Michelle Englot (born January 22, 1964 in Montmartre, Saskatchewan; formerly known as Michelle Ridgway and Michelle Schneider); is a Canadian curler from Regina, Saskatchewan. She currently plays second on Team Brooklyn Stevenson. She is a nine-time provincial champion skip. Career Englot started curling at age twelve, and represented Saskatchewan at the 1983 Canada Winter Games. Englot won her first Saskatchewan Scott Tournament of Hearts provincial championship in 1988, she defeated Kathy Fahlman 10–0 in the final.
