2008 Summer Paralympics National Flag Bearers
During the Parade of Nations at the 2008 Summer Paralympics#Opening ceremony, opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Paralympic Games, athletes from each participating country paraded in the stadium, preceded by their flag. The flag was borne by a sportsperson from that country chosen either by the National Paralympic Committee or by the athletes themselves to represent their country. It is considered a great honour to bear the country's flag in the Parade of Nations. Parade order Per tradition, the host country, in this case the People's Republic of China, marched last however contrary to tradition in the Olympic Games the national team of Greece did not enter first. All other nations marched in name order in the language of the host nation, which in this case is the Chinese language. Saint Blandina (french: Blandine, c. 162–177 AD) was a Christian martyr who died in Lugdunum (modern Lyon, France) during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. So Wa Wai
So Wa Wai (; born 6 October 1981) is a retired athlete from Hong Kong who has competed in the Paralympic Games on five occasions, winning 12 medals. So Wa Wai is called the "Wonder Boy" () by the people in Hong Kong. Early life So was born with jaundice which affected both his hearing and the balance of his limbs, and hence competes in the T36 classification for athletes with cerebral palsy. Toru Suzuki
is a Japanese professional golfer, currently playing on the Japan Golf Tour. Suzuki was born in Gifu Prefecture. He turned professional in 1990. Suzuki won his first title on the Japan Golf Tour in 1993, and would win consistently between then and 2004. Yizhar Cohen ( he, יזהר כהן, born August 12, 1962), also known as Izhar Cohen, is an Israeli paralympic swimmer. Biography Cohen was born in Kibbutz, Degania Alef. In 1985, he was blinded by a land mine while serving with the Israel Defense Forces. Cohen works as a Shiatsu therapist and is married and father of two. Table Tennis
Table tennis, also known as ping-pong and whiff-whaff, is a sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight ball, also known as the ping-pong ball, back and forth across a table using small solid rackets. It takes place on a hard table divided by a net. Except for the initial serve, the rules are generally as follows: Players must allow a ball played toward them to bounce once on their side of the table and must return it so that it bounces on the opposite side. A point is scored when a player fails to return the ball within the rules. Play is fast and demands quick reactions. Spinning the ball alters its trajectory and limits an opponent's options, giving the hitter a great advantage. Nico Vergeylen (born 1968) is a retired Belgian para table tennis player who competed in international level events.
