2008 Players' Championships
The 2008 Tylenol Players' Championship is the last Grand Slam event of both the World Curling Tour and Women's Curling Tour for the 2007–08 season. This was the sixteenth time the event has taken place, and the third time since it was switched to joint men's/women's format. The event was held at the Mile One Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador April 15–20. Since the event is a part of the Olympic qualifying process in Canada, only Canadian teams were invited. Players' Championship
The Players' Championship is one of the final events on the World Curling Tour (WCT) and is a part of the Grand Slam of Curling. From 2016 to 2019, it was the penultimate slam of the curling season, and the last of the four "majors". The event was one of the original Grand Slam events when they were instituted in the 2001–02 season for men and for the 2006–07 season for women. History The event began as the "VO Cup" before the Grand Slam era in 1993, as part of the very first World Curling Tour season. The event was known as the VO Cup for two seasons before title sponsor Seagram's Distillery pulled out. With no sponsor, the 1995 event was saved at the last minute, and continued the next season thanks to a TV deal with TSN. A women's event was introduced in 2006. Mike McEwen (curler)
Michael McEwen (born July 30, 1980 in Brandon, Manitoba) is a Canadian curler from Winnipeg, Manitoba, who grew up in Brandon, Manitoba. McEwen won six Grand Slams in his career before his team qualified for their first Brier, Canada's national championship in 2016. He is noted as one of the top curlers using the Manitoba tuck delivery today. Career Early career In 1998, McEwen won his first of two Manitoba Junior championships, sending him and his team of David Chalmers, Bryce Granger and Kevin Schmidt to the 1998 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. There, he led his Manitoba rink to 9-3 round robin record, in 2nd place. This put the team in a semifinal match up against Ontario's John Morris. McEwen would lose the match 8–4, settling for third place. Richmond, British Columbia
Richmond is a coastal city in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia, Canada. Greg McAulay
Gregory McAulay (born January 2, 1960) is a Canadian World champion curler from Richmond, British Columbia. Career McAulay has been to only two Briers in his career. At the 1998 Labatt Brier, he skipped his British Columbia team to a 7-4 finish before losing to Saskatchewan (skipped by Rod Montgomery) in a tie-breaker. Two years later, McAulay was back at the Brier. In the 2000 Labatt Brier, his team of himself, Brent Pierce, Bryan Miki and Jody Sveistrup finished with an impressive 9-2 record to finish in first place after the round robin. In the playoffs, he defeated Russ Howard's New Brunswick rink twice to capture his first and only Brier title. Kevin Martin (curler)
Kevin Martin (born July 31, 1966), nicknamed "The Old Bear" and "K-Mart", is a Canadian retired curler from Edmonton, Alberta, an Olympic, World and four-time Canadian champion and a member of the World Curling Hall of Fame. He is considered by many commentators and former and current curlers to be the greatest curler of all time. Kevin Koe
Kevin Koe ( ; born January 11, 1975) is a Canadian curler. Koe is a two-time World champion and four-time Canadian champion. He was the skip of the Canadian men's team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. Originally from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, he now resides in Calgary, Alberta and curls out of The Glencoe Club. He learned to curl at the age of six in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. Career Corner was a member of the 1993 "dream team" of his cousin Wayne Middaugh and the brothers of Glenn and Russ Howard. Corner played lead for the team. All four players would skip teams to provincial championships in the future. In 1993, the team won the Brier and World Championship. Corner played in his first national championships at the 1987 Canadian Junior Curling Championships playing third for Middaugh. The team lost in the final to New Brunswick's Jim Sullivan. Brad Gushue
Bradley Raymond Gushue, ONL ( ; born June 16, 1980) is a Canadian curler from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Gushue, along with teammates Russ Howard, Mark Nichols, Jamie Korab and Mike Adam, represented Canada in curling at the 2006 Winter Olympics, where they won the gold medal by defeating Finland 10–4. He also represented Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics, where he won a bronze medal. In addition to the Olympics, Gushue won the 2017 World Men's Curling Championship with teammates Mark Nichols, Brett Gallant, and Geoff Walker.
