2008 Lebanese Elite Cup
The Lebanese Elite Cup 2008 was the 11th edition of this football tournament in Lebanon. It was held from August 27 to September 11, 2008 in Beirut and Sidon. This tournament includes the five best teams from the 2007-08 Saison and the Cup Winner. Since Al-Mabarrah finished 4th in the league and won the cup, Shabab Al-Sahel qualified to the tournament too. League Champions Al Ahed won the tournament after beating Al-Ansar 3–1 in the final, it was the first win for Al Ahed in this tournament. Al Ahed players Salih Sadir and Hassan Maatouk were the top scorers of the Lebanese Elite Cup, scoring three goals each. It was the first edition after a 3-year break caused by the political protests and the 2006 Lebanon War. The draw took place on July 2, 2008 in Beirut. Al Ahed
Al Ahed Football Club ( ar, نادي العهد الرياضي, lit=The Covenant Sporting Club) is a football club based in Ouzai, a district in Beirut, Lebanon, that competes in the Lebanese Premier League, the top flight of Lebanese football. The club was founded in 1964 as Al Ahed Al Jadeed, starting in the Third Division, before they first reached the Lebanese Premier League for the first time in 1996. Nicknamed "the Yellow Castle" (), Ahed have won one AFC Cup title, eight Premier League titles, six FA Cup titles, eight Super Cup titles, six Elite Cup titles, and one Federation Cup title. Nasrat Al Jamal
Nasrat Zaki Al Jamal ( ar, نصرت زكي الجمل; born 1 July 1980) is a Lebanese footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for club Okhwa Kharayeb. Club career Al Jamal began his career at Lebanese Premier League side Tadamon Sour during the 1998–99 season, with whom he stayed until the 2003–04 season. He helped his side win their first Lebanese FA Cup in 2000–01. In 2004 Al Jamal joined Ansar; he suffered an injury in November 2004, having to undergo surgery. Despite his injury, Al Jamal scored two goals in the league during the 2004–05 season. The following two seasons ( 2005–06 and 2006–07), Al Jamal helped Ansar win two domestic doubles (league and cup) in a row, as well as another cup in 2009–10. Mahmoud Mohamad El Ali ( ar, محمود محمد العلي; born 4 March 1984) is a Lebanese former professional Association football, footballer who played as a Striker (association football), striker. El Ali represented the Lebanon national football team, Lebanon national team, scoring 12 goals in 46 games, before being banned for life from professional football due to his involvement in the 2013 Lebanese match fixing scandal. Ali Sabbagh
Ali Sabbagh ( ar, علي صباغ; born 30 June 1979) is a Lebanese former football referee. He was a full international referee for FIFA between 2008 and 2013, before being banned for life from refereeing due to fixing a match in return for sexual favours. Career Sabbagh refereed in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, beginning with the match between Nepal and Timor-Leste. On 10 June 2013, the referee was sentenced to six months in jail by a Singapore court, after pleading guilty to influencing two linesmen to help fix an AFC Cup match which took place on 3 April 2013. Salih Sadir Salih Al-Sadoun ( ar, صالح سدير صالح السعدون; born 21 August 1981) is an Iraqi former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. Previously, Sadir played with Rah Ahan and Paykan in the Persian Gulf Pro League. He also played for the Iraq national football team between 2002 and 2011. Abbas Ahmed Atwi
Abbas Ahmad Atwi ( ar, عباس أحمد عطوي; born 12 September 1979) is a Lebanese former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. Making his debut for Lebanon in 2002, Atwi was the all-time most capped player for his country with over 80 international caps, before being surpassed by Hassan Maatouk in 2020; he played for the national team for over 13 years, until his final match in 2016. Club career Atwi grew up in the Zuqaq al-Blat quarter of Beirut; he began playing football in the streets aged six. He joined Nejmeh on 5 December 1997, and scored 114 goals in over 500 matches in his 10-year stay. In 2012, Atwi was sent on loan for a few months to Dubai Club in the United Arab Emirates. Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium (CCSC) ( ar, ملعب مدينة كميل شمعون الرياضية; french: Cité sportive Camille-Chamoun) is a multi-purpose stadium with a capacity of 49,500 seats, located in the Bir Hassan area of Beirut, Lebanon. Paul Emile Rustom ( ar, بول إميل رستم; born 26 January 1983) is a Lebanese football coach and former player who is assistant coach of club Sagesse. He is the son of Emile Rustom, a football manager and former player. Club career Rustom began his career at Sagesse, before moving to Ansar on 23 August 2007.
