2008 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship
The 2008 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship was the 114th staging of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Kilkenny County Board in 1887. The championship began on 20 September 2008 and ended on 26 October 2008. Ballyhale Shamrocks were the defending champions. On 4 October 2008, Dicksboro were relegated from the championship following 2–11 to 1–11 defeat by Young Irelands. On 26 October 2008, Ballyhale Shamrocks won the championship after a 2–11 to 0–12 defeat of James Stephens in the final. It was their 12th championship title overall and their third title in succession. Henry Shefflin from the Ballyhale Shamrocks club was the championship's top scorer with 1-23. Bennettsbridge () is a village in County Kilkenny in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is situated on the River Nore south of Kilkenny city, in the centre of the county. Bennettsbridge is a census town, and has population of 745 as of the 2016 census. UPMC Nowlan Park (; ) is the principal Gaelic Athletic Association stadium in Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1897, but had to wait ninety-four years for its first senior county title, taking home the junior trophy in 1994. Ballyragget () is a small town on the river Nore in the north of County Kilkenny in Ireland. Ballyragget is on the N77 north of Kilkenny. As of the 2016 census, it had a population of 1,082 people. Toponymy The name 'Ragget' is Anglo-Norman in origin, and denotes a once-prominent Norman landowner Richard le Ragget who held these lands in the early part of the 13th century. Older names of the settlement include Donoughmore (or Donaghmore; ga, Domhnach Mór "large church") and the even more ancient Tullabarry ( ga, Tualach Bare) - the name of a Celtic or possibly pre-Celtic tribe which held their seat in the vicinity.
