2008 IRB Nations Cup
The 2008 IRB Nations Cup was the third edition of the international rugby union tournament, a competition created by the International Rugby Board. It pits the "A" Teams of the stronger (Tier 1) rugby nations (Emerging Springboks and Italy A) against some of the Tier 2 and 3 nations (Romania, Georgia, Russia and Uruguay).See List of international rugby union teams#National teams - tier classification for more information on the Tiers. For the second consecutive year the event was held in Bucharest, Romania. The Emerging Springboks were the overall winners for their second consecutive year. The competition format was a modified round-robin whereby each team played 3 of the other 5 teams. The competition was played over three match days, with three matches played consecutively on each day. The Romanian Rugby Federation ( ro, Federația Română de Rugby), abbreviated as FRR, is the governing body for the sport of rugby union in Romania. Romania currently comprises 24,610 players, 9,810 members of which are registered and 113 clubs in the whole country. Radu Petrescu (born 19 April 1980) is a Romanian rugby referee who mainly referees club rugby in such tournaments as the Romanian SuperLiga. Player career Petrescu started playing rugby in 1990 with local team Grivița. At the end of his junior years he played for a short period of time for SuperLiga giants, Steaua. He ended his playing career just before moving to seniors, choosing to concentrate on his studies at the University of Bucharest. Stadionul Naţional de Rugby Arcul de Triumf (''Triumphal Arch National Rugby Stadium'') is a multi-purpose stadium in Bucharest, Romania. Alexander Yanyushkin (russian: Александр Янюшкин; born 30 October 1982 in Penza) is a Russian rugby union coach and former player, he is the head coach of the Lokomotiv Penza and Russia 7s. Vladimir Alexandrovich Marchenko (russian: Влади́мир Алекса́ндрович Ма́рченко, uk, Володи́мир Олекса́ндрович Ма́рченко; born 7 July 1922) is a Soviet and Ukrainian mathematician who specializes in mathematical physics.
