The 2008 Football Federation South Australia season was the 102nd season of soccer in South Australia, and the third under the FFSA format. 2008 FFSA Super League The 2008 South Australian Super League was the third edition of the South Australian Super League, the top level domestic association football competition in South Australia, and was the first season to use a finals system, with the top five teams in the league progressing to the finals. The number of teams relegated to the South Australian Premier League also increased from one to two. The league was won by Adelaide City after they beat the North Eastern MetroStars 2–0 in the Grand Final. Adelaide Olympic F.C. is a football club from Adelaide, South Australia. The club competes in the National Premier Leagues South Australia. Origins The club's origins can first be traced back to 1978, where it was founded under the name of Adelaide Asteras. In 1982 the club changed its name to Thebarton Asteras. Six years later, the club was taken over by the Greek Orthodox association of South Australia Inc. who later changed its name to Olympians in 1989. Noarlunga United is a soccer club from Adelaide, South Australia. In 2019, Noarlunga play in the FFSA South Australian State League. They play at Wilfred Taylor Reserve in Adelaide's southern suburbs. History The club was founded under the name of Wakefield Wanderers in 1963 by John Jones and Norm Hughes. The club changed its name in 1974 to Noarlunga United. The nickname the bulldogs is in honour of the club's British heritage. The club originally played at Wakefield Reserve, Acre Avenue, Pimpala. The pitch was virtually on the top of a cliff. It had a very big slope down hill from south to north and the winds which used to rip down and across the pitch were horrific. The National Premier Leagues South Australia (often abbreviated to NPL South Australia or NPL SA) is a semi-professional football competition in the Australian state of South Australia. The league is a subdivision of the second tier National Premier Leagues, which sits below the A-League on the national pyramid. The competition is controlled by Football South Australia, the governing body for the sport in the state. History In 2012 it was announced that the FFSA Premier League was to become the top tier of South Australian football (below the national A-League) after the disbandment of the now defunct FFSA Super League.
