2008 Copa Libertadores Finals
The 2008 Copa Libertadores Finals was a two-legged football match-up to determine the 2008 Copa Libertadores champion. The series was contested between Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito from Quito, Ecuador, and Fluminense Football Club from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, both of whom were playing in their first finals. The first leg was played at LDU Quito's home field, '' La Casa Blanca'' in Quito, Ecuador on 25 June 2008; the second leg was played at Fluminense's home field, '' Maracanã'' in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 2 July 2008. LDU Quito won the final on penalties 3–1, after each team won a game apiece, and equalized on goal difference after the end of extra-time of the second leg. 2008 Copa Libertadores
The 2008 Copa Libertadores de América was the 49th edition of the Copa Libertadores, CONMEBOL's premier annual international club tournament. This marked the first year the competition was sponsored by Spanish bank Santander. As such, the competition is officially the 2008 Copa Santander Libertadores de América for sponsorship reasons. The draw took place on December 19, 2007 in Asunción. Ecuadorian club LDU Quito won the competition for the first time in a final decided on penalties. It is the first time a team from Ecuador has won the competition. LDU Quito earned a berth in the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup and 2009 Recopa Sudamericana. Qualified teams Thirty-eight teams qualified for the competition, with twenty-six teams directly qualifying to the Second Stage and twelve entering in the First Stage. Away Goals Rule
The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaker, tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. Under the away goals rule, if the total goals scored by each team are equal, the team that has scored more goals "Road (sports), away from home" wins. Thiago Neves Augusto (born 27 February 1985), known as Thiago Neves, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder. Club career Thiago Neves was born in Curitiba. Playing for Fluminense in 2008, he scored a hat-trick in the home leg of the Copa Libertadores final – Thiago Neves had by then already scored once in the away leg (in Ecuador) — (during the 2008 Copa Libertadores) but ending up on the losing side, as Fluminense drew 5–5 on aggregate with LDU de Quito and were eventually downed in the penalty shootout. Luciano Leguizamón
Félix Luciano Leguizamón (born 1 July 1982) is an Argentine footballer and his current team is the Guaraní Antonio Franco of the Primera B Nacional. Career Leguizamón started his career in Gimnasia y Esgrima de Concepción del Uruguay. He then moved on to River Plate. Not having played much at River, he was loaned to Unión de Santa Fe and Polideportivo Ejido (Spain).
